Basically you are going to have to setup a simple network for the computers to communicate over. This can be done in a couple of ways.
1) Use a crossover ethernet cable (CAT5 is a grade of cable suitable for 100mbps networks) that connects the ethernet network jacks on each PC - just a simple cable between each computer.
2) Use a network device such as a hub, switch or router (with switch ports) that allows multiple network devices to be connected. With such a device you will just use normal ethernet cables (CAT5) to connect each PC to the network device.
Once they are connected, you still need to setup some things on your computers so they can communicate with each other on the same network.
I've provided a couple of links below on simple XP networking and how to configure the Windows network settings:

You required a cross cable to connect computers. But if you r using a switch/HUB in network then u required straight cable from switch/HUB to Server. And if u r using a router in network then u required cross cable from router to server.

should you dont have hub / network switch and just connect two computer... you have to use "cross" ethernet (cat. 5) cable which allow direct connected.
if you have hub / network switch, using ordinary ethernet (cat 5)cable
for shaing internet, a proxy server is also required...
