Always conforming to societal rules would make me very unhappy.

I don't think I should have to stand up in a line if my legs are tired,

or shave my legs because someone else doesn't think that adult women should ever look like they've completed puberty,

or wear high heels if bare feet with ankle bracelets are much more comfortable and fun,

or laugh along with homophobic jokes when I know they are wrong,

or accept traditional wisdom from professors when challenging the accepted wisdom is the way most great discoveries are made,

or feel insecure about my body just because I don't look like the computer-generated models on the covers of magazines,

or wear black and cry at the funeral of a loved one when I know they'd much rather I wear turquoise and laugh--telling funny stories about them,

or eat meat when I know it hurts my body and hurts animals and that the land used to raise grain to feed cattle could just as easily be used to raise crops for starving people.

Who needs comformity?!

I stand out because I dress and act differently from everyone else. I, as I am told (even though I am entirely sure they don'[t mean all the time), that I act older than what I am. I also have a totally unique style and always wear the same hat!

I wouldn't say I like to stand out because I'm not really comfortable in the spotlight, but I am definitely my own person, not like anybody else that ever was or ever will be.
