I don't know those brand names..what I do know is you should be taking Folic Acid, Calcium, and maybe some A,B,C,E multi-vitamin as well. I cannot quote mgs required but I think you need btn 800-1500mgs calcium per day, and about 300mcgs of Folic Acid a day..and if you have iron issues maybe take an iron tablet a day too.

With both of my pregnancies, my OB gave me a prescription for vitamins (with a $30 copay...no thanks!). I ended up taking over-the-counter store brand with both babies...CVS with my first son, and Meijer (a dept. store chain in the Midwest) with my second son. They were both born healthy, big (8 lb. 4 oz. and 8 lb. 11 oz., respectively), and with no medical problems/birth defects. I compared the ingredients on the CVS vitamins with the prescription ones (the pharmacist let me see the bottle) and aside from the inactive ingredients, they were identical as far as what % of each vitamin provided daily. I think the store brand ones had an inactive ingredient of cornstarch, where the prescription ones didnt. The difference was minute.

Please keep this in mind...prenatal vitamins are formulated differently than regular multivitamins. They contain less of two vitamins...(I think it's A and E, maybe? I can't remember.) which can be harmful to the baby in large doses. That's why they take them out of the prenatals. If a centrum vitamin contains 100% vitamin A, the prenatals contain 25%, I think.

The prenatals I got from my Dr always made me sick. You can get some over the counter kind. It doenst matter what kind you take. You could take a Flintstones vitamin for all practical purposes according to my OB. As long as you eat a healthy diet, thats all that matters. My sister never took prenatals with her second, and she's perfectly healthy. They just have to push the pills because of the drug companies. If you dont like what they gave you at the dr office, go to the drug store and get any brand of prenatal vitamins and eat a healthy diet and drink plenty of water.

Your doctor isn't experimenting with you. There are pharmaceutical reps that go to doctors offices trying to get them to recommend their prodects - medications, antibiotics, asthma inhalers, prenatal vitamins. They do this by leaving "samples" for the doctors to give out to their patients.
Pregnant women, in particular, have trouble tolerating some medications, especially prenatal vitamins. By giving you samples of several brands, you can find out which you tolerate best without having to shell out money, only to find out you can't take that kind. They are actually doing you a favor!
As far as which are best, they are all pretty much alike. Make sure they have folic acid though, very important to developing babies!

My sister got very ill with the prenatal vitamins and when she told the dr he suggested that she take Flinstones vitamins bc they are gentle and safe for children so that the amounts would not harm the baby and still be gentle for the mom. It does no good if shortly after you take the prenatal vitamins you lose them... so taking a gentle Flinstone is similar to taking baby aspirin or baby motrin. It will help the baby not harm the baby and still be effective for the mom.

I know how you feel! I had the same experience. Some people have a preference. I liked the one pill option. Some had a day and night dose and I always mixed them up or forgot the other half. SOme people have less constipation with certain brands. Otherwise, they really are all the same of you read the inserts. But you are smart to get all the amples you can!

None, you just need to eat and drink, you're here, ask your grandmother this question and she will tell you to stop taking stuff that most of the world don't need. I have a perfect 2 year old girl and my wife ate rice and chilies, she's Thai, never taken vitamins in her life, never drank milk, never worried about what she ate. Half the worlds women are having babies, perfect babies and most of them eat strange food and have normal babies. Linda mcartney ate many vitamins and health food, they make no difference, your doc is selling you something not needed by 85 percent of pregnant women in the world, ask yourself why. If you are still worried, just eat good food and listen to your instincts. Hey, by the way, I talked to my babies before they were born, they grew up "gifted." Both are super inteligent, speak about anything, teach it basic mathes!!! Worked for my kids. Great luck to you and your future daughter.

I couldn't take pre-natal vitamins, they made me ill. None of them will harm you or the baby. At least he gave you some choices to try.
