They gave the Rich 2 Whooping Taxcuts, corporations and the rich pay little if any tax and are too cheap to give those who earn $10,000 a year a pay increase. You can't afford an apartment after they take out taxes and Social Security!
But Congress accepted there $3,400 raise!!!

Republicans blocked the minimum wge increase because of sheer avarice. They want it all for themselves, and are unwilling to share the wealth.
Their argument is that increasing the minimum wage will cause businesses to lay off workers, which will create more unemployment, which will damage the economy!

A really simple solution is to take the pay increase out of CEO's salaries, but that wouldn't work (say the "experts"). Let's tale a hypothetical example: let's say a manufacturing company has 500 employees that earn the minimum wage of $5.15 per hour. At 40 hrs. per week, that's $206.00 for each worker, or $103,000.00 per week, or $5,356,000.00 per year.
Let's say the company's top three chief executives earned equal salaries of $10,000,000.00 per year. That's $30,000,000.
If each chief executive would give up just $1,785,333.33 of his annua salary (17.8%), he'd still earn $9,821,467.00 per year, or $188,874.36 per week (916 TIMES WHAT ANY OF THEIR MINIMUM WAGE WORKERS EARN!!!). But, gee, how could we ever expect a CEO to live on a paltry nine million bucks a year?
If the government can impose a minimum wage, then it should also impose a MAXIMUM WAGE. There's no reason why CEOs in America should make 200-300 times what their employees make. It's just sheer greed. No one man is that much smarter than anybody else (in fact, in most factories and other businesses, the "guy on the line" is a helluva lot smarter than the "suits" in the ivory towers).
Republicans (and Democrats, too) pander to the wealth elitists, the lobbyists, big business, and special interest groups because they can make generous (if not illegal) campaign contributions that keep our sleazy politicians in office.
Thomas Jefferson once said: "The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants." That time is way past due. It's time for American citizens to take up arms against the rich, the powerful, and the politcally-connected, hunt them down like dogs, and take back our country.

Raising the minimum wage will hurt the poorer people because the price of goods will go up to cover the costs, majking it even more difficult to make ends meet.
While it sounds like the solution to the problem of "poor wages", it really isn't. Lowering the cost of goods is better than raising the wages. Spiraling wages and goods prices causes inflation - the dollar is worth less here (has less purchasing power), and is also worth less on the open market in other countries, and then imported goods cost more as well as domestic ones.
We need goods and services to go down in price, not wages to go up. The only way that will happen is if we quit taxing buisnesses so highly so that new ones can open and compete with the establishment businesses. Competition will bring prices down, and everyone is happy.

Because it hurts free enterprise. Minimum wage shouldn't go up. Such jobs are meant to be entry level, meaning you do them while you are gaining skills for higher paying jobs, NOT career choices.
No one, not even a retail clerk, needs to stay in a minimum wage job for long, heck my teenagers NEVER worked for minimum wage. Even their first jobs paid several dollars more.
The only people stuck at that level are those who don't try.
And what happens if minimum wage goes up? Well small employers will hire fewer people and expect more from those they do hire, and people who earn more than minimum wage because they've earned the promotion won't necessarily get raises so suddenly they aren't getting a fair wage differential for their extra effort. This hurts motivation and can reduce overall productivity.
And as to a living wage question - I spent most my life in Silicon Valley which has a rediculous cost of living - when there were more jobs than people, wages went up. Even at the bottom. Grocery stores that had union contracts to hire entry level baggers at $7.35 an hour (the cheapest pay in the store) suddenly paid $2 more an hour because they couldn't find workers at the lower price. The nearby deli paid as much as $12 an hour!
In other words, even entry level job wages went up because no one would work for $5.15 cents. So the market takes care of itself. They call it supply and demand.
Oh..and I'm not a Republican...just for the record and yes, I think Republicans are *****..or at least the ones currently in power are.

Because minimum wage policies are a terrible thing for the economy. They lower the overall wage for everyone. And just a point but why would minimum wage affect the middle class????

Almost nobody works for minimum wage, except as a second job or if they are an illegal alien.
All union con tracts are based on the minimum wage,if the M.W. goes up $1.00 per hour the unions get the raise. This leads to higher prices for everything and devaluates the dollar.
Tax hungry politicians love that extra money, would $1.00 per hour push you into a higher tax bracket ?
A certain political party is always pushing for higher wages and higher taxes, why ?
THINK ABOUT IT !!
Wages go up, prices go up , taxes go up , what is your net gain, if there is one .

If they really had compassion, they'd abolish minimum wage. It keeps poor people unemployable & creates an underground economy using immigrants.
It also is an initiation of the use of force. What buz is it of the gov's if I choose to work for 2-bucks & a company chooses to hire me for that?

Republicans only cater to corporate America. I like to refer to them as the Rich Peoples Party, or the Stained Glass Party. How ironic...They **** on the very group of people who have their sons and daughters over there in Iraq getting blown up for Old Glory! I suppose they'd like to think that if any of us really wish to obtain the American dream, that we just simply go out and get masters degrees in something high tech, which todays politicians are always blabbing about. I'd like to see any one of them on our side of the fence! They couldn't handle it!

No, it's evidence that Republicans realize that in order for people to remain employed, companies have to be able to afford to employ them...how much do you want for flipping a burger?
And favoring tax breaks for the rich just makes sense....they pay the most in taxes. Why should those who don't have an income, and therefore don't pay income tax...get tax breaks?

Because america is a business, plain and simple.
The big supporters of goverment officials are usually bussiness men and they pay for thier campains so when the polticions get into office they payback thier supports by helping them make money.
As long as you realize that nothing in america is about freedom anymore, but about profits you'll do fine.
