Psychologists would probably say that he was referring to "self-fulfilling prophecy". Edgar Cayce said something like, "That which you hold in your mind, you become."

Personally, I don't think my mind is quite that powerful. When I want something really bad, I don't always get it. When I expect the worst from people, I sometimes experience compassion and empathy from people.

This statement is most true, I think, when you focus intensely on something, but I don't think you can manipulate the world with your thoughts.

It is saying that wat ever you beleive is true, accutally is or you try to tell yourself/convince yourself that is is real.
