If you are using Windows XP. Open Control Panel. Open Network Connections. You should see an icon for Local Area Connection. Right click on it and go to properties. Choose Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) and then Properties box. If it is checked to obtain IP address automatically then try the following.
Once you right click on the icon for Local Area Connection, click on Status and then the Support tab. If you see an Ip address beginning with 169.254.x.x. (the x stands for numbers) then your system is not getting an address from the router.

the most proper way is to envision your device Ip adsressing to guide. you need to manually do it in each thing it truly is correct to the router, such as printer etc. in the journey that your router says you should use x.x.x.one hundred to at least one hundred ten for instance then set the first computer to .one hundred ten, then set the second one computer to .109 and the community printer to .108 etc. this permits one hundred by to 107 as no longer used, so if yet another device connects without delay it is going to use one hundred, one 0 one etc and in no way pinch your guide ones. the clarification assigned Ip are replaced is this. The guide ones are assigned contained in the computer, printer. The router doesnt care. If both guide device is grew to develop into off, then those ip handle are availble to an motor vehicle device to pinch, so through getting the guide ones up the finest high quality, that is way less in all likelihood to ensue. the most in all likelihood element to pinch the handle is a few thing like an Xbox 360, for some reason they dont save in recommendations the guide putting, continuously ought to positioned it in.

I think it really depends on what type of connection you have. Not talking about dialup. If you are using DSL or cable, the router should be getting dynamic, whereas your PC you can set it to static or dynamic on your choice. But most pple would save the trouble and just set as dynamic

Your ISP should tell you which way their server operates. Most use dynamic (automatic) IP addresses. Call them.
