I was watching a few games last night, namely Czech v Italia, Ghana v USA and Australia v Croatia, and found that the reffing was quite sub standard, especially for Ghana and Australia's games. I think they got a bit ripped off (even though they won). I know guys at the local park who could have done a better job!
So the question is "Whats the go with the referee's?"

Maybe they're worse than the Togo players, asking for too much money.
Refs got paid $40k per game, apparently ... but maybe they wanted more? hehe ...
Australia should've got a second penalty against Croatia, the second handsball inside box was clear .. duh ...
Had they got the second penalty and made it, I didn't need to sweat that much this morning ... lucky my heart's strong enough to watch the drama. Go Aussie!

Thay should just allow tv evidence, just like in US football.
My dad was a ref for handball in the olympic games back in the 70s and he says that it is impossible (even on a handball field, which is tiny compared to soccer) to see everything and to be close enough to the action to make the correct call 100% of the time. Sometimes it's hard enough to make a clear call from the tv where the cameras zoom in and you have slowmotion.
So give those guys a break or invent contact lenses with zoom and playback!

The refs are probably felling high and mighty since the get to be a ref in the World Cup. They are probably thinking that ANY call they make is the right one, whether some people agree or not.

Being a ref myself, its hard to make instant decisions but the quality of referees at this world cup is significantly lower than previous times. I think FIFA should allow instant replays or "challenges", like American football.

Not just those matches, the French scored against south korea and they didn't call it, and of course the Italy vs. US judge was so inept I've started calling the (seemingly endless string of WC 2006) screwups "Jorges" in his honor. Far cry from 2002, the bald guy who did the championship match was excellent.

Especially the Mexican... with the sleeping Caterpillar above his eyes and the love affair with hair gel (worst ref... I have EVER seen)!

Yeah they are screwing up but they are screwing up on both sides. The US and Ghana teams were equally screwed on their game.
