Good point, DESTINED, but remember that racism goes both ways. Non-whites can be racist also.

well racist is racist, but there are certain degrees and differences between racist ppl. i mean u got nazis, rednecks and u got small 11 year old who lives in the burbs and watches rap videos and thinks black ppl are gangsters.

some people are either mature enough or arent THAT racist enough so that thier prejudices dont get in their way.

this is a tricky open ended question with no simple yes or no answer, at least in my opinion.

It really comes down to what you do with it, how you act on it, what you do to change and resist.

I feel that most (99.9%) people are ethnocentric, in more and less degrees. It's an inescapable heritage for us humans, who evolved as tribal creatures. Most of us go through our lives unfettered by those "latent" traces of ethnocentric behaviors, but will at some times recognize and acknowledge they exist.

I don't agree with the concept of "race," because in biology and anthropology there is no such thing as race. So, I don't use the term.

Ethnicity may be at least defined in social and cultural context, but these are cultural definitions, where race has no definition in any way.

So, apparently I can't answer your question as posed.

Now if I substitute "a little bigoted" for "a little racist" -- then I can. Bigoted means judging or prejudging without investigation.

A "little bigoted" does not preclude learning and change.

In fact, a whole lot bigoted doesn't either.

Look at the Hymn "Amazing Grace." Written by a former slaver who repented and spent the remainder of his life serving God.

People can change. A bigot can learn. If people could not learn, the world would be a very sorry place.

So, unless you want to argue semantics, I say they're more apart than apples and oranges, these sayings are.

Pregnant people are pregnant, until they give birth or abort (deliberately or spontaneously). No choice or learning can undo that, so the ironic saying holds that you can't be a little bit pregnant.

I hope this makes sense, especially to those who are a little bigoted. There's hope.

There is no such thing as being a little racist. If youre racist you're racist. A racist mentality is in your mind. You can't think bad of black people and think something good of them at the same time. same thing with being pregnant. If you'r pregnant you are pregnant. But I think that you are associated with the idea that racism happens in stages just like pregnancy. during pregnancy the egg goes through changes. And like racism it starts out as an idea and turns into mumbling and grows to an all out mindset that blacks and other non-white people are not better. kinda like jealousy.

I think racism is a matter of degrees. It's not a "black and white" (if you pardon the phrase) thing- it's very much a matter of shades of gray.

There is very much a biological reason for racism. Back in prehistoric times, one had to tell from a distance whether one was of the same tribe or not- it was a matter of life or death. So mankind is by nature xenopobic. We all are biased to some degree- it's human nature to trust and affiliate with those who are most like us- and it's not just whites. Everyone has some sort of bias, whether they admit it or not.

In a more practical way, I'd say yes, there is a big difference between being a little racist and very racist. Isn't it much worse being a Ku Klux Klan member or a Neo-Nazi than say, a redneck who doesn't like blacks, but wouldn't hurt one- he just doesn't want to have anything to do with them. I think actions are much more important than thoughts or feelings.

Not that I think racism is good- I think it is a VERY bad thing. But I think an honest discussion between races is more productive than simply ignoring the problems and reality.

I think there ARE degrees of racism. It's not sayin that it's somehow o.k. to be slightly bigoted. Stereotypes, or "prejudism" is simply having an idea formed from one's appearance. It may or may not be accurate. Racism to me is the act of treating, and lookin at one in a negative light based on their racial origin.. It's wrong no matter HOW bad they look at ya. I figure, we ALL have preconceptions to one degree or another, whether we want to admit it or not. It's an example of "ignorance" rather than "bigotry"

I couldn't agree with you more. Racism is the single most appalling thing ever to me. You could do such great things with your mind and it saddens me that people put theirs to work for such evil purposes.

You can't compare the two, racism is a state of mind, while pregnancy is a state of the body. It is possible to be slightly racist, but its impossible to be only slightly pregnant.

Everyone is racist. whether a little or a lot. We tend to stereotype people no matter what. Mostly cause we are flawed human beings. And we have to pick someone else who is different.
