(xy^3)^2=x^2y^6
add when u multiply them: x^2 y * xy^2 =x^3y^3
subtract when u divide them: x^2y^3 / xy^2 = xy
multiply when u take a power to another power: (x^2y^3)^3 = x^6y^9

(xy^3)^2 is the same as (written out)
is (xy^3)(xy^3)
[(xy)(xy)(xy)] times [(xy)(xy)(xy)]
so I just realized I've forgotten how to do this...
sorry
