Not all sunscreens will work to prevent sunburn, what is the SPF level that you are using? Put some lotion on the burn, it won't immediately go away, but it'll help relieve some pain.

I know this is going to sound really weird but cider vinegar work very well. I used to get so sunburned on my shoulders when I was a child that I actually got blisters. So my mom would take me outside and drench Cotton balls with vinegar and soak my sunburn down really well. As far as the redness it's going to have to go away on it's own. Try a sunblock the next time instead of sun screen.

You should buy some Solarcaine, which contains lidocaine, the topical anesthesia used by doctors everywhere, but in a non-prescription strength. It's an Aloe Vera gel that you can get at the drug store, which will keep your skin moisturized, and that Aloe speeds healing. Also, take a couple of Advil (Ibuprophen is the generic form). Advil is an anti-inflammatory, which will help heal your sunburn faster, and cut some of the pain.

Good ol' Noxzema will take the pain away leaving you cool. The redness is there for a few days. Wear a light shirt to cover it up, and yes, definitely wear a bra. It may hurt now, but at least you'll look the part for a promotion. Also, for future reference, one cup of white vinegar in a tub full of warm, not hot, water, will help reduce the stinging as well. Im irish and so i burn really easy. What works best is half a gallon to a gallon of regular vinegar to a tub of water. Take and lay in it it will draw out the heat and then when you get out put on some aloe gel. Dont worry when you shower in the morning the smell will come off!

Tonight- Take IB Profin for the pain and use Fruit of the Earth Aloe Vera (at WalMart- it is cheap and works well).
Tomorrow- Wear green, it will make you look tan and not as sunburnt. And get MD Skincare's Moisturizing Mist ($38) it feels sooo good and helps you heal.

Redness is kinda just something that you'll have to deal with. Using an Aloe lotion or even Aloe Gel from your local drug store seems to help with the pain. It worked for my husband but once it wears off I had to put more on him. I even stored it in the fridge to keep it even cooler!

Aloe vera works well, and if you put it in the fridge, it feels better.

You won't be able to get rid of the redness overnite, but if you put aloe on it a few times between now and then, it should feel a whole lot better.

OK, this sounds insane but it works!
Mix oatmeal bath and water until a thick paste and leave on afected area for ten minutes.
Rinse gently with cool water.
Apply a thin layer of diaper rash cream. (I said it was crazy) It heals irritated skin. I like Sudocrem, but anything with at least 13% zinc oxide will do it. In two days, it should be fairly healed up.

This may sound odd, but brew some tea. Then soak a cloth in the tea, let it cool a bit, and put it on your shoulders. It reduces the pain drastically. I have no idea why, but it works well.
