Ideally they should follow Guus' advice and go for Graham Arnold, but no doubt they'll go for A NAME to lend us credibility. Because lord knows an Australian isn't good enough to coach OTHER AUSTRALIANS!
I admit that I like the idea of O'Neil taking over, a good coach that inspires loyalty and admiration from his players. Having worked in the Premier League for a long time he'll understand the strengths of our players quite well.
Houillier would be the biggest waste of money ever. Not only could he do nothing with the French team, but for years he was head of a Liverpool side brimming with talent that continually disappointed. It was clear that the players didn't enjoy their time there, and this would carry over if he was brought down here too.
Has anyone considered bringing Venables back down here again? We could probably get him cheap now.

Not looking too promising. The 3 contenders so far are:
Martin O'Neill: former Leicester and Glasgow Celtic manager. He is highly rated and was considered as Newcastle United and England manager. He quit managing for a season because his wife was very ill. I rate him as a very good manager (although not as good as Guus).
Gerard Houllier: Former France and Liverpool manager. He did not have a good time with the French team, as they failed to qualify for the 1994 World Cup amid rumours of in-fighting. He is still considered a world class manager, but i personally don't like them.
Roger Lemerre: Another ex-France manager. Was in charge of the team that failed to score a goal in the 2002 World Cup. Very highly rated. Would be an ok choice.
Bottom Line: None are as good as Guus, but all are world class.

I don't know. But I think it should be someone from Holland they seem to be the country with the best coaches. When we do get a new coach he needs to sit down with Aussie Guus and swap notes otherwise we will lose momentum. There needs to be continuity of coaching at least intially. We're only new to this world cup thing and the world stage. It's great. I'M LOVIN IT!!!

I read somewhere the other day the Guss did want to stay on the proviso that his assistant coach Graham Arnold be retained as well but our Football administration refused to guarantee Arnolds future(a mistake I recon) so Guss had no option but to go else where a bloody pity.Has anyone else heard this story

How about the coach of Trinidad and Tobago, Leo Beenhakker? He's in for a new challenge after his unprecedented success with T & T. He is good! He has l,ot's of fun doing it and he would fit the colourfull humor of the Aussies.
Hans from Holland.

Why not Ron Barassi, Kevin Sheedy or Leigh Matthews ?
The more important question though, is whether Italy will be naming any Carlton F.C. players in its team !
What do Italian Soccer Clubs & the 1910 Carlton team have in common ?...Match Fixing !!!

Ideally I'd like to see Arnold do it. He's obviously learnt a lot from Hiddink. Failing that however, we need to get a very strong technical coach. That means no Englishmen.
