Once an animal contracts rabies there is no cure. If you are handling a baby racoon that you think may have rabies leave it alone now and report it to the local Department of Natural Resources!

Practically no raccoons have rabies. There is always some possibility of a wild animal having rabies. The raccoon in your garbage is hungary. That is why it is there. It stares at your house because it hears something and is aware of possible danger. An animal with active rabies will have a very sore throat and will avoid eating or drinking thus hydrophobia. A rabid animal is a sick animal. If it does not bite you, you cannot get rabies from it. While rabies can have a long incubation period of up to one year in some animals it will not pass it on until it is active. Incubation is usually 21 days in people. Once active rabies kills the host in less than 10 days. That is why dogs that bite people are quarantined for 10 days. If they are still alive and healthy they do not have rabies and did not give it to a person. If most raccoons had rabies then most would die shortly and the species would perish. Rabid animals act in unusual ways. Approaching you aggressively when they should run. Stumbling, growling when they have been tame, walking around without regard to their own safety or lying sick on the ground. A feeding animal that watches for threats is not apt to be rabid.

Not all racoons have rabies the way to tell is they start staying up in the day [except babies at young ages they like to stay up in the day] they also have a foam around there mouth and shake alot.

I have rehomed racoons but never got sick but just incase dont touch the adults but if there's a baby in need phone a wildlife centre or if the baby goes towards the road you can grab it with a towl.

Vaccinations are a preventive shot, not a cure. As far as I know, once an animal has rabies, they will always have rabies. Also, the only way to check for rabies, is after death, so I do not see how you'd know this baby has it or not. I guess you are assuming he/she does.
Either way, leave the nursin' of wildlife to the licensed rehabilitators. They know what they are doing.

Don't mess with a racoon that has rabies. There are too many healthy pet type animals that need help to be risking your health on a sick wild animal.

If the animal HAS rabies, it is too late to vaccinate. If they have symptoms....they will die. This is why it is illegal in most states to keep raccoons. People are dumb and try to make them pets.

There are NO sure symptoms for rabies!!!!! Animals will not have the same symptoms!!! Better safe than sorry...do not handle them!!!!! Check your state laws too!! In many states it is illegal and not even all Wildlife Rehab people can take raccoons. they have to have a special permit for raccoons due to the rabies issue. If you end up getting bitten and go to the doctors, you can be fined for violating the law.

I think that once symptoms of rabies are exhibited that it's already too late. It affects the brain. Once you show signs of it, it's all over but the waiting. Vaccination before symptoms appear MIGHT cause cure baby raccoon. That's a vet question, for sure.
