You can get an invaluable, free "Lap Manual" from here:
http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/erc/files/ [scroll down to the file "Lap Manual.pdf"]. It has *tons* of info on why and how laps are done, what to expect, how to maximize your recovery and minimize post-op pain, and much more. You need to be a member of that group to download the file, but it's free. It's the best resource on laps I ever saw. Good luck to you.

Eat light for a few days before you go. You 'll get narcotics and they can cause constipation.

If you get a pain in your shoulder after the surgery, it is caused by residual gas under your diaphragm. Lie flat or on your side to get the gas to go down toward your belly, where it will be absorbed.

Ask your anesthesiologist for medicine to prevent nausea and vomiting. It's quite common after laparoscopy, and most of the time it can be prevented.

Good luck!

It's not too bad. The only part that bothered me was being so gassy afterwards (they inflate your abdomen with CO2 gas, and it needs to be expelled).
