I am totally SICK of it!!! Then they get all mad because you say they need to see a vet!!!!! Some even sau in the question that they can't take the animal to the vet!!!!!!!!!! Like we are expected to give them the amswer to why the bone is sticking out of the dags leg, and a home remedy to fix it!!!!!!!!!!!
They are just low-life idiots!!!!!! Clearly they have a computer and internet access. I am sure they do not skimp on "extras" for themselves either!!!! They just think they should not have to pay vets prices, or that they should get financial assistance!!!!!!!!!!
I work at a cat shelter and we see people come in all the time that want help with vet bills. They come inwearing their Tommy clothes and claim poverty!!!!!!!!
I makes me sick!!!!
If you cannot or will not pay $200 for a medical problem with a pet....DO NOT GET A PET!!!!!!!!!!

Actually I have worked with animals my entire life... including being a groomer, breeder, vet tech, caretaker, pet sitter, volanteer work, etc. And I know for a fact that many trips are just as unnecessary as they are neccesary. There are many things you can do to care for your animal at home and ways to even keep them alive. I actually live a good 45 minutes from my emergency vet, and sometimes you just need some ideas or suggestions.
I don't necessarily agree that you need to run off to the vet for just any reason. I can medicate, give fluids, vaccinations, care for bug/fly bites, deliver puppies, give meds or treat many problems as you would yourself, right here at home. Yes, some are obvious cases in which no human should think twice about in taking your pet to the vet asap. But I also know from a lifetime of experience, that some people panic over anything. The most reasonable or reliable thing to do is to at least call your vet asap, and ask the nurse if they see that it is absolute necessary to bring the pet in.
Make an informed decision above all, would be my advice.
Prevention is the #1 priority in animal care, and if anyone has been working in animals for long, they would also realize that immediate care pays off, rather than waiting.
Good question and concern though!!!
It is certainly important for people to realize that if they are not willing to care for their animals no matter what, then they have no business owning one.

No I don't think most people realize that what they are doing is cruel to the animal - or at least I hope thats the case.
I agree there are a number of people posting questions that set off alarm bells in my head. WHY is that dog/cat not at the vet???
We have a neighbor who has a dog with cancer, the dog is obviously in pain yet they will not put the dog to sleep. She asked my opinion and I told her what I thought about it.
I could never make my animal suffer because I was unwilling to part with 100.00. It hurts my heart to see the dog. I had even offered to do it for her and she refused.
What I object to is that people get a kitten or a puppy and keep it until it is full grown and then give it up. How is that fair for a seven year old cat to have to compete for a home with kittens? It isn't.
If that animal is not going to be a member of the family and treated as such (medical care, food, water etc) then skip it.

I think maybe some people just don't have the money and they're just trying to do the best that they can and seek answers wherever they can. Of course they SHOULD take the pet to the vet but there are a lot of things that we all should do that we don't for one reason or another. It's pretty tough all over and at least by asking things in here hopefully they'll get enough responses to take their animal to the vet that maybe they will. So in this case hopefully the end will justify the means.

I must agree that some of the questions asked are a bit scary.
Most folks don't know much about their own body/health, the pet's health needs really aren't are their radar.
Sad, as I wonder why people keep animals if they don't want to care for them properly.
I see so much cruelty to animals everywhere, everyday; it is just too much. But, maybe if responsible folks can help these people become aware by answering their questions, we are doing some good. If one pet is helped by this.
As to the $$$ issue, many, many people have pets that they truly can't afford. They don't fully realize what they have committed to until the pet gets sick. All doctors are expensive.
Think prevention, think safety, think training. Then you won't be faced with so many situations.

It's not much different than some of the posts related to their own health when they should call a doctor. Some people aren't responsible pet owners, which is unfortunate. Money is a big factor for some people and should be taken into consideration before deciding to adopt a pet. Pet ownership is a big responsibility. I remember when my cat was very sick and i rush him to the emergency vet in the middle of the night and they would not look at him until i gave them half the money up front. I was young and half broke and emptied my bank account and had to leave him there over night. That same night i went home and took my diamond and gold tennis bracelet and went to my friends boyfriends house crying and asked him if it was worth anything, he told me to keep it and gave me some money towards the rest of the money i owed and my sister also gave me over two hundred dollars. In the end it cost me well over fifteen hundred dollars. This same cat years later, Buster, got very sick again right before my husband and i got married. The money i had been saving for our wedding went to saving not just buster but my other cat too, they both got better. I thought i would have to float a loan since they were both in the hospital for two weeks. I took them home early and gave them their medication for months. Buster is now thirteen years old but unfortunately Punky died three years ago. Sorry this got so long but I love animals.

I don't even think people should have pets. Unless you live on a farm, you don't need a dog. Most dogs are prisoners in their own homes and spend most of their time bored and lonely. Imagine you sat at home ALL DAY except for twenty minutes twice a day when you get to go for your walk? No wonder dogs go crazy when they see their leash. Finally, they get a little freedom. Just because they are domesticated doesn't mean they are stuffed animals! I guess I didn't answer your question. But I do agree. People, if they are going to subject an animal to a life of misery, should at least make sure they are not in physical pain (only mental anguish :(

I think if they can't afford vets bills then they shouldn't have a pet, but a lot of people just see how cute something is, don't bother reading up about the pet before getting it and end up killing the poor things.
I think pet shops should have a form to fill out asking how to take care of the animal you want and then you can have it, if you know enough to take care of it.

well, while some of the postings make it very obvious that the animal needs to go to the vet, a lot of the time a problem that seems serious is really very simple to fix...for instance, we have pet chickens, and we didn't know that you have to give them grit (for the calcium). Our baby hen wasn't able to stand for a while, and she just seemed really weak, so we asked my aunt about it, and she said that it was because she wasn't getting enough calcium. She's fine now, and the problem was very easy to fix. People just want to see if there's something they can do for their animal without the vet's help, that's all.

nicely the regulations have replaced final year besides, however the the respond is honest opposition. Goodyear and NASCAR made a deal some back to offer maximum of tire per race and Goodyear has been waiting to offer. On a side observe the communities no longer purchase the tires from Goodyear. they actually hire the tires from NASCAR in the process the race weekend. After the race they ought to return all tires, and could be fined and loose factors in the event that they do no longer.
