All you people are probaubly (I spelled that wrong... whoopie) all tired of my questions by now, but... I need help... AGAIN!

I swear this is a question by brother asked me!

Why is diversity of species important?

To me, it sounds like a school assignment, but considering the fact that he's already out of school, I'll try to screw him over by asking random people on the internet instead of actually looking for the answer myself.

Cheers!

or not

"Diversity of Species" is one way nature protects itself from complete extinction. In a complex environment, there are multiple paths to survival. So species have evolved that suit each of these paths. It only makes sense that species that are not a threat to one another would coexist in such a place. It also makes senses that predators and prey would reach a natural balance (ie it only works if there are more gazelles than lions). If a disease comes through that wipes out the gazelles, then the lions will all starve. But life will go on because there are sloths and toads and ants and ballywoates (okay, I made that up) and fish and insects and so on....

hope that helps.

I'm just gald there's apparently a young person out there who still believes there is a diversity of species!

The diversity of species is like the population of different species live in a community. Ecotone is said to protect the environment we live in. Cuz it has a higher number of biodiversity. Ecotone( the area between land and water) This is ecology man. not biology. By the way, I did not enjoy learning ecology this year. Neither did my whole class.

Well..This is important so life can expand and fill every environment and niche. With a wider diversity the food chains grow and life becomes much more stable. If one species dies out, then there are more to fill the gap.

Diversity builds strong genetic material. Like resistance to disease.
