The situation: Daughter's boyfriend was married by a Justice of the Peace in the past, he is now divorced and engaged to my daughter. They would like to be married in the Catholic Church. Is this possible, and what would they have to do if it is possible?
Thank you,

I assume your daughter is Catholic.

Your daughter's fiance's first marriage will have to be invalidated before they can be married in the Catholic Church. From what you tell, this should be a very simple case.

Contact the appropriate person your in your parish who has been trained in the process. If you encounter difficulties, you may go directly to the diocese.

Be prayerful, honest and patient. It takes a while.

With love in Christ.

depends. If the boyfriend was Catholic before he was married by the JP, the Catholic church wouldn't recognize that marriage and he could marry your daughter in the Catholic church. If he was not Catholic at the time of his earlier marriage by the JP, then probably not unless he had an annulment.
