Computer experts: How can I know for sure if someone has put some sort of spyware on my computer?

For example, I suspect my husband spies on my email from his account. To avoid this, I don't check from my personal computer. One night online I saw some sort of software designed for this purpose. It works like a vcr. All that's required is to log in to your email account, hit some key strokes, and it begins to playback like a video tape, everything that was recorded from the time you logged on.

That type of software is a key-stroke logger. In other words, it records what you type in. It doesn't "read" your email. He would have to log into your email account to do that. If you think he's doing that, change your password and don't tell him. If you think there's a keystroke logger installed, take a look at the Add/Remove Programs in the Control Panel and see if there's anything there you don't recognize. If so, google it to find out what it is, and uninstall it if you don't like what you see.

Well what are you trying to hide from your husband anyway.... I think that is the first question you should ask yourself. But if you must continue this illicit e-mail affair. Buy some good anti-spyware software. Look through the computer for the program files, Oh and by the way if you are checking these answers at home you are alredy busted.

i've never heard of such a thing, but if you have reason to suspect your husband would do this to you, then you have bigger problems than privacy. (isn't it funny that your husband secretly invading your privacy turns out to be your fault?) get another computer he can't access, or better yet, get a divorce - there is obviously no trust in the relationship.

i would suggest you try to find that software again and once you have a name for it, look around for something that will kill it. there are many good spyware removal programs but they don't all remove the same stuff, so it's important to know you will have the program you need. good luck.

you need to change your password on your email account and dont let your hubby know the password...if he knows your username and password then he can log into your email account from ANY pc
To find out if you have spyware on your pc you need to download some decent spyware removal tools.We recommend Adaware SE Personal and Spybot Search & Destroy...both available for download from www.download.com.Also go to the Microsoft website and download the Windows Defender prog..Running all 3 of these progs at least once a week will help keep spyware off your pc

I would set up a "fake" email account at some other computer, such as '[e-mail]', and then send a very salacious and suggestive email from your home computer: "Let's meet at [location] at [time] for some really hot sex, etc.

Then, at the appointed time, get all dressed up, perfume, etc. and head out the door.

If your husband follows you, or is at the place, at the time, yhou will know that he has been monitoring your email.

You could jerk his chain for a long time with spurious emails, and suggestive this and that.

It would drive him crazy, but if he is spying on you, he gets only what he deserves.

look for files that arent associated with anything on your computer

to avoid your issue I would start with a fresh install on NTFS partitions set passwords and all and learn the essence of protection from spy ware and virus. You can find this class at your local JC
