I really don't want to play host during 4th of July weekend, but my sister wants to come visit. Yes, I told her I wasn't up for company. Any good excuses?

A friend of your's is about to have a major crisis in their life and YOU my dear fellow are the only one that can give them the help they need--it's going to require you to leave town and give up your own holiday---but these things happen--if sis doesn't understand--well I feel sorry for the people she calls friends if they ever need her !!!!

If you really can't say it outright then tell her you have other plans already and that you won't be home to play hostess.
I would just tell her the truth. Let her know that you want a real vacation weekend...not the kind where you go to work Weds. feeling like you didn't have a day off. Don't let her push you into doing something you don't want to. Offer up a compromise...like Labor Day weekend for a visit.

Don't tell her you don't want her to her to come, tell her she can't. Make up some reason why it'll be impossible for people to come. You're sick? Depressed? Dead? Anything will do. Tell her you're going away for the weekend. That always works. Tell her you want some alone-time with your family/boyfriend/friends/kids/husband. Anything will work!
