The day of the US being a dominate player in the world has come and gone.

No, we are ranked 5th in the world (which if you ask me it think is bit too high) and we made the quarter-finals in 2002 only to lose to germany 1-0 (which had a contraversial hand ball in the penalty box). But I feel we did not do good this world cup due to key players being injured and then not fully recovering (e.g. DeMarcus Beasley, Claudio Reyna, Eddie Johnson) and also players being completely injured and missing the World Cup (Cory Gibbs, Frankie Hejduk....). But one could say that almost every fan uses that excuse after suffering a loss. This is true, however, I'll admit we probably wouldn't get past the quarters.
We also have THE hardes group: Italy - What Can I say, Czech - Euro Cup Semi-Finalists and ranked 2nd in the world, Ghana - Considered to be the best team in Africa and beat Czech 3-0 (Already beind considered game of the world cup) To top it off the second placed team in this round plays Brazil (Which pretty much is a loss). There fore no one wants to lose and no one wants to play Brazil, punk.

I think just because they think they're #5 in the world, they have everybody beat. The FIFA world rankings aren't even representative of the team as a whole. They need to go back and regroup, and hire a new coach. Bruce Arena has done a lot for the US in 2002, but it's time to kick off the wallflower and get someone who's actually competent to coach the US team!

It never fails. Whenever there is buzz about a team it works against it. The best way to arrive at the world cup is a nobodys, and nobody gives a damn about you. Cases in point Ghana and Australia. Gunjarr, 7/11 has an unattended register with your name on it.

Actually I believe it was bad coaching all around to be to blame for it. How do you enter a game you know you are forced to win with only 1 Forward against a fast Ghana Defense. You put no fear into them that way, you fuel their confidence and show your lack of confidence in sacrificing either a midfielder or defender to put pressure on them. To me entering with a 4-5-1 is a defensive move, 3-4-3 would have been my move and attempt to pressure them full field to force mistakes and hopefully not commit many mistake and put the pressure on them to commit a mistake.

i dont believe that the US is crap. i actually believe that everyone underestimates them, well a lot. and although they didnt play well at all this World Cup, there are a lot of factors contributing to this. for one, the horrible officiating. did you know that the referee for the game betweent the US and Italy had been suspended previously for irregularities? he made that game horrible to watch. what kind of game can it possibly be when it 9 vs. 10?

Maybe. It might be too much of it, and not enough skill and training.

And NateTrain, there's no need to be rude. Soccer is an extremely good sport, but no one is saying that basketball or American football isn't. That is just an opinion. And that's what they call Freedom of Speech, dude.

Because Americans don't give a flying F*CK about soccer. We watch good sports like Football (the American variety), Baseball, and Hockey.

No, it's due to their inexperience in playing together in a World Cup setting or any international game. And maybe they need a better coach.

The US team played hard, maybe not in the first game, but they came back strong. They are a great team, but Ghana was just a better team this time.
