Dr. Laura helps people with personal problems who telephone her radio shows.

She has a good size backing -a big fan club.

I once thought "how can someone solve a person's big
personal issue in a 30 second phone call answer?"

But now I think this IS possible. You have all the pros and cons and you want a smart, objective opinion.

The good: Dr Laura has talked to thousands and thousands of people -she has good know-how on
resolving common problems with similar ingredients.
And she gives no-nonsense, clear answers. 90% of her
advice is right on, helpful, professional, and well worth
listening to.
The Bad: Dr. Laura intrudes her own religious beliefs
into people's' lives which is judgmental, emotionally
out of focus, and damaging to many---a good example
is how she will rake a female over the coals who mentions
having had an abortion, like a religious nut on a witchhunt!
And her referring to anyone who lives together as "just shacking" is very shallow. Half the time, that's true, other times, 2 people give marriage a solid test run which makes sense!
If Dr. Laura would excise the "moral" crap, she would be
an excellent resource to contact. And she is a Champion-
Tough-As-Nails in speaking up for kids who are underdogs without any power. But Dr. Laura is their Helper who makes the playing field even for all kids.

She writes books and gives advice. She is on the radio every day. She did have a T.V. show for a short time.

I don't care for her but that is only one opinion. She feels that woman should bow to men. That is the way to make him happy and you too, because you get more when "your man" is happy!
Get up and have his breakfast on the table. House spotless, the old 50s June Cleaver type wife and mother........She also thinks all mothers should stay home and never work. Sell the house, whatever, but do not work when the kids are home. She tries to teach you how to be the stereotype wife and mother.

NOW, I don't know what happened in her personal life, but she had not talked to her mother for over 20 years. Her mom died and Dr. Laura never went to see her. She has one son who she thought was perfect. She talked about him going off to college for years. I don't know what happened, but he went to college and returned in a very short time. Then she started in how wonder boy decided to go into the Army!! So I don't think her life is as wonderful as she wants you to believe.

Dr. Laura has/had a talk show in which she answered psychological questions in re relationships, children, etc. Then her former lover published internet photos of her that he had taken of her in the nude and she was trounced. But she always said to think of the kids first and I admired her for that. No one has all the answers...no human can. But she did/does her best. I don't know if she still transmits as the local station does not carry the show anymore.

She's a radio psychologist who can be heard on a large number of stations through her syndicated show. Sometimes she's WAY off because she doesn't seem to take the time to listen to someone finish their whole story (and its pretty obvious at those times), but most of the time she provides excellent feedback and I believe she's really helped a lot of people. Recommend her? Yes, IF you get to give her your entire story, otherwise find someone who WILL listen to what you have to say before advising.

A conservative psychologist and radio talk show commentator. I would not recommend her because of her radical views and hypocracy. For instance, here is a short list of how her personal life conflicts with her views:

- she is divorced
- she dated a married man with three children, who, subsequently, left his wife for her
- she posed nude for a boyfriend/supervisor when she was in her 20s, who in 1998 posted the pictures on the Internet. [9]
- she converted to Orthodox Judaism and then left it two years later.
- she was estranged from her now-deceased mother
- she remains estranged from her sister

I think her life is good evidence that her moral standards are not realistic for anyone, including herself. She is also hateful towards homosexuals:

"Prior to 1997, Schlessinger was very supportive to gay callers during the show. In those years, she took issue with Christian religious leaders who were opposed to gay relationships, and said that it was cruel to deny love and happiness to gay couples. She renounced this view in 1997 and embraced the opposite view. Soon, her monologues approvingly mentioned groups who claimed they could help homosexuals "turn" heterosexual, and she attacked the American Psychological Association for condemning their stance."

All in all, I would classify her as a Grade A Nutjob.
