A small colorful & lacey japanese maple tree. Under it plant some impatiens or hostas for shade, or daylillies for sun. Or perhaps some spreading lantana to grow over your planter & cascade down the side. Frame the mountain view with pleasant colors.

grow some oak trees. that would look lovely. keep them trimmed though. topiary is nice and looks good.
