First they get the easiest group. Then if you check the schedule for the rest of the world cup you will see that if they make it, they wont have to face Germany or Argentina until the end. Brazil is always gets help by Fifa. Havelange was there long enough to influence things.

I really don't think they got the easiest group at all, and if you look at the way these groups are decided it would be very hard to justify those comments.

As skewed as the FIFA rankings are, Japan is in the top 20, Croatia, just outside. Australia, a far better team than their ranking suggests (as their results prove) round out the group.

Like most other sports, the top 8 seeds (inc the host nation) are each spread over the 8 groups so they can never meet too early on...does this favour the stronger teams ? Yes. But I think the better ranking should get you some priveleges.

Brazil might be favourites, but they still have a long, hard road to lifting the cup.

Actually, Spain got the easiest group. Tunisia, Ukraine, and the Saudis are a weaker three compared to the Socceroos, Japan, and Croatia. Heck, someone is Spain's group will get their first trip to the Round of 16. Anyways, the pot draws for the groups was done on live television back in December.

True, they don't get Germany until the Finals. However, they could face Spain in the Quarters, and England in the Semis. They aren't exactly walk-overs.

No, the lottery to choose teams in every group was done in the open, viewed world wide. Schedules, yes. They seem to have more time between matches to regroup and reorganise. The officials seem to be more lenient to the top teams, just watch the Brazil vs Australia match. Just because a team is not as powerful as Brazil doesn't mean they shouldn't enjoy the same treatment and respect due to them. They do that in alot of sports. No equality.

I don't. This was one of the toughest groups for each nation playing in it, including Brazil.
