Drive In Movies used to be fun when I was young. Packing snacks and enjoying the outdoors and that large screen. A few of my friends fell asleep and woke at dawn:(

I think if they brought them back now...It'd be fun in some ways. In other ways...could be more tickets for drinking at the Drive In movies. I think this is why people stopped going to them so they can relax at home with dvd's and drink if they want to. Laws now days are much more strict.

Theater's now days, have great seats and surroundings. I think after enjoying both types of movies... I like the comfort of the indoor movie theaters.

I don't think they will come back due to lack of interest and more convience watching movies at home.

Yes! We still have a few of them up north but I haven't found one since we moved south. It was always fun for the family to get in the car, and trek to the drive in. You saw 2 movies (or, if an all night showing 4) for less than it costs for 2 people to go to a theatre! If it wasn't bitterly hot, you could lie on the hood of your car to watch the show. Snack bar was reasonable...not costly like at the theatre and you had a much wider choice of food. You were even permitted to bring your own food and drink. I'm sorry you never got to experience watching a movie while sitting under the stars!

BTW, there are still two large drive-in theatres in Ohio, in case you ever have a chance to go there!

Yes! There are a few around still, but they need a comeback. I actually visited one a few days ago in Bristol, Tennessee. The picture quality is great, you can watch the show without being disturbed by cell phones and other annoyances you would get in a movie theater, and the prices are often much better (only $6 to see both Cars and The Shaggy Dog!). On the downside, audio quality isn't so great and bad weather could quickly bring your show to an end.

We live on the Arkansas Oklahoma border and go to Poteau Drive-in or Fayetteville drive in every weekend. We love it and the kids love it. We have little ones and it is hard to go to a regular theater with them so a drive-in is the next best thing. The concession is way cheaper than a regular theatre and we even bring extra snacks and drinks. Now days the movie comes through right on our car speakers, no ugly metal things hanging in the windows like when I was young. I think every city should have one. They are so awesome!

There used to be some by my house when I was growing up. They're dead for a few reasons. If you want the theater experience, with the surround sound and everything, you won't get it at a drive-in. If you don't care about the theater experience, most people will just rent a DVD. There's no niche for it to fill anymore, except for horny teenagers, but that's not a big enough market, I think.

There are 3 in Southern Maine. They are fun in the summer. I don't know why they ever went away in other places. It's good family fun. The first movie is usually a family movie and the 2nd one is more adult-oriented. By the time the first movie is over, the kids are usually tired, and all popcorned-out, so they fall asleep. Then the adults can enjoy the second movie.

Yes! The first time I ever went to a movie was to see ET at a drive in theater. There are still a few around but nothing like it used to be.

I'm old enough to remember & what great memories I have. It was so cool to jump in the car with friends & head to the drive-in. (I think the price was per car instead of per person). The only people you had to ask to not talk so loud was those people in your car. No one stepping over you & know big hair blocking your view. I think alot of people would love to see the return of the drive-in.

It got the family out to the movies together a lot more often.
Yuo could bring all of your favorite munchies and heck you could go in your pajamas and no one would no the difference.

God Bless you to

Definitely, my parents took me to the drive-in when I was a kid, it was even better then. There was a playground under the screen and you could run around and play ball.

I am lucky, there are 2 drive-ins just a few miles from my house, those of you who are in the Hudson valley, come on to Poughkeepsie to relive this American tradition.

My son loved the drive in when he was little and liked it even better when he got older and he took his girl friends there.
