There is a good chance a regular Honda scooter would get better gas mileage than a motorized skate board. Even a 70cc four-stroke motor gets better mileage than a 50cc two-stroke. Honda Elite is very durable and a used one should be inexpensive to purchase.

Don't know anything about them there skateboards, but I remember when roller skates had keys. Do you remember the song, "You've Got A Brand New Pair of Roller Skates and I've Got a Brand New Key?"

Get the June issue of Popular Science. On page 19 an article titled What's New there is a bike that is converted to a moped. The gas is kept in the place where the water bottle would be placed. You may type POPSCI.COM in your URL and see in you can find out about it.

Pep Boys auto supply sells a number of models of "motorcycle" that are 49cc. It would be better than a skateboard. There are also motorized bicycles that have smaller motors and are also pedal powered. I'm assuming there isn't a convenient bus and that the laws don't allow for mopeds either (because a moped would be your best option).
