I have a rabbit and he is starting to miss parts of his coat that used to be thick and beautiful. His/her breathing is becoming kind of weird... I told my mom but she won't take him to the vet and stuff. We fed him/her celery and idk if that was a good idea... he LOVED it though. He is still friendly as ever but just seems to be suffering a little bit... I just want to know what is wrong with him!! Please help guys... and just pray for Tatum please...<3 -Hannah

Hi Hannah,
The loss of fur could be different things, it could be normal seizonal shedding. Big 'chunks' of fur can come out and it takes a while for the new fur to grow back in. If your bunny is a female, she can be pulling out her fur to make a nest whether she is pregnant or not (our bunny does this too). I'm not sure about the breathing part unfortunately, maybe you can call a vet and ask what it might be. Sometimes viral hemorrhagic disease or ringworms can be a cause of respiratory problems but only a vet can and should tell you what's wrong. Bunny's can also get what for us humans would be a cold, they need antibiotics for this or else it could get worse and end up into a chronic upper respiratory infection.
A thing you always have to do is make sure your bunny is sitting on dry shavings and or hay. Keep the corner where the bunny does it's business clean especially when the weather is hot or muggy. Bunny's are easily litter trained and pet stores sell litterpans and corncob for that. Bunny's ALWAYS need to be able to eat, when a bunny doesn't eat for whatever reason, their intestines stop working and they can die in 48 hours.
You can read a lot of information in books about bunny's you can buy at the pet store, the books are not expensive.
Bottom line is that it's best for your bunny to take it to the vet and have it checked out.
Good luck!

I don't know what's wrong...but it doesn't sound good. If your mom won't take him to the vet, just make sure you keep him comfortable. My cat lost hair on her belly and the vet said it was an allergic reaction to something...i'd say the same for your rabbit but the breathing patterns mean that it could be something more.

i don't know how long you have had your bunny but in some cases people get rabbits that are PREGNANT and if so the missing fur is normal. they pull it to make a bed for the little ones.and the heavy breathing might mean SHE is in labor.

Hello Hannah,

From my experance when my rabbits started doing that she was "in the family way" and was making a sort of nest to be as comfortable as possable for when the new arrivals came.

You should consider your rabbit might be having a false pregnancy. I hope you have her spayed. This is a very good website for rabbit articles. http://www.rabbit.org

hi friend
loss of fur may be as it eats its fur due to
1-low fiber in ur bunny diet(found in carrot/ hay/clover) and it eat fur to compensate its fiber
so u should feed him fiber containing food as carrot
2-loss of fur may also due to external parasite which u should get red of it

Perhaps parasites or allergies...
