You need a valid reason to get it. My son was 15 when he got one, and the reason he got it...

He stayed after school for an activity, the only pay phone in the school was broke. He got on the school bus at 4:30 and was not home at 6:45.

It was worth it for him to not spend 2 1/2 hours on the bus ride home after school. And that 2 1/2 hours was on a good day, in good weather, 3+ hours in rain or snow.

They are expensive.

Sure why not ive seen some younger than you with a cellphone. Just tell your parents you need the cellphone in case of an emergency.

No. The only reason I would think you should get a cell is if your parents think you need it (to keep in contact with them or for emergencies) but otherwise the only reason you would want one is because its popular. You should be out with your friends or doing other positive social activities not on the phone. On top of that it may give you early bad habits, like talking on the phone with someone while you are already in the company of people.

Absolutely!! I should have gotten one your age I just got one 3 mos. ago and I'm 16 LOL!! Get a Tracfone theyre prepaid and National coverage and you will only have to add a $20 card every 60 days. which ends up being $10 a month or you can get the year service card which works out to $8.33 a month x12 which is the price of the card and plus if you join the tracfone_users yahoogroup you can get promotional codes that get you bonus minutes!!!.

Its not a matter of if you 'should', I mean, even if you do get good grade are good, and a good person, its not about that. Although, those are very good traits, but I mean maybe your parents don't want to have to pay for it. I'm 15, I can't get a cell phone until I get a job, sadley at first I was like you, and asked my mom and dad, but now that I think about it , I will feel so much more accomplished having payed for it myself and not having to go to my parents for everything. Don't worry about getting a cell phone, its not everything.

Why do you need it? Are you able to pay your own bills? I think if you can answer a good reason for the first question and yes for the second, then definatly you should have a cell phone

Yes you should.A cell phone is a necessity even if you are 12 but I'd suggest you get a card phone so you don't run up the bill.

why does a 12 yr old need a cell phone? car troubles? u livin in the ghetto? a typical 12 yr old has no NEED 4 a cell phone. cell phones aint cheap, n i doubt u have a job to pay the bill. so, nope,. no cell phone

I don't think it's necessary. I didn't have a cell phone until I was in college. Granted, times have changed a little since then. I believe that teenagers don't need cell phones until they start driving. When they do, then it is a good time to have a cell phone.
