Brittany McComb, valedictorian of Foothill High School in Las Vegas had her speech cut short because she dared to try and use a reference to Jesus. The horror! Never mind that the Constitution doesn't require a separation of church and state, especially in the case of a young woman using her Constitutional freedom of speech to thank her Lord, the clergy in the Church of Liberalism saw fit to shut off her microphone and not allow her to finish her speech.

Is it so important that we not offend people just by uttering the name Jesus, while we allow celebrations of Kwanzaa and pacify radical Islam in our own country, that this young woman should have her Constitutional rights stepped on by the state?

I understand that all the libs will say yes, but I had to ask anyway. It's always interesting to read their interpretation of the Constitution.

"Peter N" ... come on. How is a young woman thanking her Lord an "extremist view"? She wan't recruiting, she was making a speech. Are you THAT afraid of the name of Jesus?

And since when did local schools "run them as they want"? The feds have been dictating education policy for decades.

"Pie's Guy" ... I didn't say Kwanzaa was a religion, but it is a "celebration" that is specifically exclusionary to people that are not black. At least Christians allow all comers.

"Pie's Guy" ... I have to give more details? Why? Are you so incredibly lazy you can't look them up yourself (I provided the link)? Oh, I forgot, libs don't actually read stuff, they rely only on sound bites. Got it.

"jayboo" ... this one is soooo up for debate. Explain EXACTLY how someone thanking their Lord is the taxpayers providing a forum to preach? Come on, be specific.

I think the world has become too politically correct. I'm not literally white, but I don't care if people call me white. I don't care if people thank Jesus or Buddha, or whomever they worship. Our country, in all its freedoms, is becoming very strict.

You know, America wouldn't have these problems if they were taught to think for themselves and not use handy quotes from Jesus OR Jehova. It is propaganda to have a person in such high esteem (valedictorian) stand before an entire mass of people and talk about Jesus...it's not illegal, just illogical, in the same way it would be if the valedictorian were to quote Satan and not Jesus...do you think THAT would be logical or right?...remember, just because most Americans are Christian, it doesn't mean that their opinions are "right" just because they are a majority. If 99% of Americans beleived, and voted, that gays should be killed, it doesn't make it right, even though it is an amazing majority. Don't get me wrong on this though, I'm all for free speech and the like, but impressment of beliefs shouldn't exist, from either standpoint, Christain or not.

I saw the young women interviewed on the Today show. After submitting her speech to the school she was told that it was not acceptable, and that if she read it as is she would be cut off. She agreed with the school to read the edited speech.

At the last minute she changed her mind and went against her word. A real Christian thing to do.

She went back on her word, she was warned, if she did not like the decision perhaps a better course of action would have been to decline giving the speech. But now she is suffering the consequences of her actions and crying foul.

I thought the whole conservative thing was about taking responsibility for your actions, or does that only apply to issues you do not support????

This is sooo not even up for debate.

I read the article. She was wrong.

She went to a PUBLIC high school and as the article states:
"In the 750-word unedited version of McComb's speech, she made two references to the lord, nine mentions of God and one mention of Christ."

It's especially silly for you to call it a "witch burning" considering that is the sole reason for the separation of church and state to begin with.

get real.

oh and since you asked - The purpose of a VALEDICTORIAN is to speak for the entire class... to wish them well for their future accomplishments... not to thank Jesus for making themselves #1 in their class.... how selfish! Where are her morals? It's not supposed to be an acceptance speech like winning Miss America...

I guess she has a problem with needing to be right all the time.

How incredibly inane ."...while we allow celebrations of Kwanzaa" Wow Dave, nice of you to ALLOW what is a right given in the Constitution, and you blast someone else's interpretation of it?

Take up your problem with the Foothill School Board, maybe you can explain to them how one religion has precedent over others in your interpretation of the Constitution.

Thanks for the chuckle though.

i have been warning people since they passed roe-v- wade and the drug act .
Once you have the right to control someones body there mind will follow.
it is dangerous groud to regulate what one can and can not do with there body
this goes to free speach and so much more .
we are losing freedoms faster every year and it goes way back but the biggest hits we took were in the early 70's
we could not stop them then and now it will take the over-through of the government to stop the police state and anti- freedom movment.
invest in gold the crap is gonna hit the fan soon mortgage everything you own and go as far in debt as you can handle and invest all your money in gold you will thank me later for this and be glad you did not much time left do it be for november

Wow, I hadn't heard about that particular case, but it doesn't surprise me at all. I think people who claim the name of Jesus are constantly and increasingly having their constitutional rights violated, and in the name of the Constitution! Separation of church and state is designed to protect the freedom of the worshiper to worship however he or she chooses without infringement by the government. But it has been turned around to supposedly "protect" the public from people who choose to worship. Weird. I am glad to know someone else cares about such things.

eh... from what I see here... I agree with you... I don't like it... and I'm a liberal...

but I do like to have more than one source when making a decision... not that you should provide that, but I'm just saying...

if you just watch a Michael Moore movie and you don't know any of the other facts... you would probably think it's all true and he's 100 percent right...

Hey, it's their school, they should be able to run it like they want, why should public dollars fund extremist views? let stick to education with our public funds and leave religious speech to be funded from other places.
You obviously bought that trani's book or heard enough about it.
She's so evil, check out the source they have reviews on her lies.

The constitution does forbid government-sponsored prostleytyzing, which from even your article, much less one written somewhat more objectively, one could reasonably see her speech as doing.
