Style has always been important. Women (and men) have always needed to be aware of the right color/cut to show their social standing. Wear the wrong thing, and be seen as an "outsider" (sometimes tho, this is what we're going for). Since first impressions are usually 5 seconds of visual cues before you even speak, style lets the viewer determine your worth, hence the constant struggle to find the right look.
I wouldn't let it bother you tho, history repeats itself, so does fashion.

Because some young girls might have friends that have more or better clothes than the other and one will go out and buy clothes and try to be in style.But my opinion is everone has a different wardrobe and should have thier own style.

I do not care what people think of me, i as a mom wear jeans or shorts and a t-shirt that are usually my husbands shirts from work. I always make sure my boys look good though. I have not bought anything for me except for mothers day i bought a skirt and cute shirt for church that day. Other than that nothing bought since high school.

Many reasons. What you wear is an extension of who you are.Your appearance is judged by others around you.Some say that they dress for other girls.That doesn't mean they are gay, just that it is important to them to impress other girls that they are on top of things fashion- wise. And of course we want to look attractive to the boys too.

Because you let it be. Be yourself, be comfortable. Wear what you like?
Many of the female clothing trends are one step away from obscene. If you have a higher standard, then don't be scare to adhere to that standard.

probably because of all the celebrities and it makes us feel confident knowing that we are wearing something that is in style.
