In some documentary, it turned out that across all the major wars, only 2% of soldiers shot to kill. The rest just couldn't do it, couldn't take another human's life.
The only people who could were psychos and people who overcame their fear/instinct for the (perceived) good of the cause.
I'd be interested in the psychological difference between soldiers shooting on the battlefield and, say, the concentration camp guard, who is intimately a part of a different killing machine.
I suppose when you're not staring at the enemy, pulling the trigger, it's easier not to question what you're doing.
What does all this mean? Luke Skywalker had an extra y-chromasome.

It's called the "Hollywood Syndrome". Obi Wan or Han Solo would be able to hit a target at the other side of the mountain, while the stormtroopers would not be able to hit them if they were two feet apart.

I noticed that too. What fun would it be if all the heroes got killed? and when Kenobi said only Imperial stormtroopers shot with such accuracy!

they where probably all clones and cloned from a person that wore glasses or was blind if they had been good shots all the rebels would have been killed very quickly and the rest of the star wars movies would not have been made.

Because they were the bad guys. Just like in every other movie, when there are many bad guys, they can't hit crap, while the one or few good guys are better shots.

Like everyone else said, because they are bad guys and that is one of the rules. It's like the rules of a horror movie, the drunk/high **** will die, and in action movies, the bad guys will be bad shots.

Cause they're the bad guys, and the bad guys always suck (except for an important figure like vader). and also cause their rifle the E-11 sacrifices accuracy for raw power
