Those oldies (Evinrude/Johnson) were goodies alright, but :) I'm looking for newer. They're more fuel efficient and quieter.

mercury have always bean good motors and so have johnson. i would never buy a yamaha though. if a company makes 10 mill different things then they dont specialize in 1 area. ao quality is les. johnson motors is owned buy the company that owns seadoo so there going to be prety good. my granpa used a mercury outboard on every boat he ever owned. as long as u winterize them properly u wont have any problem

Honda makes more internal combustion engines than anybody else. Period. They are very reliable, quiet, clean, and fuel efficient. I'd say go with Honda as #1, and Yamaha as #2.

For speed, it's always "MERC", I have used Johnson/evinrude 50 H.P. (used to be OMC now Bombardier has the co.) for years, as stated above they're "Bullet proof"

I think the dealer is more important than the make of engine.
All manufacturors make a good engine but the service from the dealer is what will make the differance.
Tohatsu is also a make you might look at.

gas stabilizer is a sturdy concept, purely ascertain you run it throughout the the carbs in any different case it does little solid in preserving your engine working easily. i used a 13 gal. kitchen trash can packed with water to run my little 6hp motor in... i cut back a hollow in the backside area of the trash can and plugged it with a boat plug ( for draining after use ). you're able to run the engine at diverse rpms... ( it is not specific ) to have interaction all working areas. i might try this a minimum of each 30 days and it does harm, in case you think of roughly it, to grant the bulb a pair of sturdy squeezes as quickly as each week or which you would be able to shop clean gas shifting.
