The WMD thing is a real mess.
We know that North Korea has it, we know Iran is pursuing it, we know Pakistan has it. We also know Israel has a clandestine one.
We know NOW that Iraq DID NOT have it.
Iraq was a mistake if our objective was to hunt for WMD or prevent terrorism from getting material support. We know that Saddam's govt was more secular - in fact, Islamists were a threat to him.
But now, Iraq could be a harbingour of successful democracy in muslim world (second example after Turkey). if this is successful, it will put a lot of pressure on likes of Saudi Arabia and Iran - the real supporter and funders of Islamic militancy in the world.
But Iraq is NOW, a magnet for terrorists from all over the world, and also and ideal ground for recruitment. If they win, then IRAQ will become a very expensive mistake.
So, whatever was the reason before, now, there's no option but to see that Iraq becomes a democracy, and not a theocracy. But maybe the US is not ideally situated to lead that effort. Time now, someone else took over.

I disagree.
Afghanistan is just as much of a joke, or lie as Iraq. Mainly because the War on Terror is a lie to begin with!
First of all, any real open-minded investigation reveals that Osama had nothing to do with 9/11, he even said so soon after 9/11. When did you ever hear of a Muslim radical not claiming a victory like that?
Secondly, any real investigation reveals that the Taliban destroyed the poppy fields in Afghanistan forcing the farmers to start growing other things. It wasn't until we invaded, drove the Taliban out, and helped the farmers replant the poppy fields for the import of drugs around the world, and to the US. All controlled by the CIA.
Stop letting the mainstream media dictate what you believe.
Do your own research...

I remember watching the summits prior to entering Iraq. One of the things Tony Blair said was if we (the united nations) failed to act now we will follow in the footsteps of the League of Nations who failed to prevent Germany's actions during World War 2. Our intelligence, British Intelligence and Russian Intelligence were confident that Iraq had weapons of mass destruction. I may have still been sore about september 11, but I was all for going into Iraq. (By the way, I have served in Iraq) Though our mission did change I can't regret it. When you meet appreciative Iraqi's, you just can't regret it. The country still needs stability and hopefully the country will get that point soon, but if we leave early, those that want similar powers to what Sadam had, will attain it. So, no, I can't say I believe it to be a mistake.

I am a former Marine and served in the first Gulf War. I believe we have every right to "Protect our country from all enemies domestic and abroad!" Afghanistan was in retribution for 9-11-01. Iraq was to bring an evil dictator out of power. Was the war handled right? I say yes, was the peace handled right, I say no!! Can it be fixed? Is the question we need to ask our Government. Not was it right,

What did we did in Afghanistan but drop a couple of bombs and say "Take that!" and immediately shift to Iraq. It's obvious that Bush had no intention of waging any real assault on Al Queda and only went to Afghanistan to 'throw a bone' to Americans who demanded the head of Bin Laden. He intended to go to Iraq all along. I think the fact that he lied to us TWICE about the reasons for going to Iraq is a pretty good sign that his intentions aren't quite on the up and up, wouldn't you say?

Sadly, what we need to do now is end both wars. It means massive build up of the military in both places and treat them like wars again rather than a police action.

Yep-- that's it. Do now-- have to stay the course. Leaving Iraq now would be way worse. It would completely fly appart if we withdrew immed.
