They've only caught dead giant squids. Recently, a team of Japanese scientists filmed one, but it wasn't eating.

Squids generally are carnivores. They will eat fish, sharks, etc. I suspect a giant squid eats the same, just lots more...

well, since no one has really observed a giant squid eating, we can only speculate what they eat. Some say they eat things as large as sperm whales (because sperm whales have been found with large suction cup circles on their skin), but they possibly eat as many things as the average sized squid does. Research the small ones first.

No way. great squid are between the prominent nutrition products of sperm whales. Sperm whales many times have scars on their bodies from the toothed suckers of massive squid, yet those are protective wounds. The squid did no longer attack the whale.
