If you are talking about wanting to keep aol and still get ride of the aol thing down at the bottom, try this
Right click on the taskbar, go to properties. You should see Taskbar and Start Menu Properties, now go to Customize, and scroll down until you see AOL, to the far right, you should see Hide When Inactive, click that, and put Always Hide, and that will make it where you won't see it unless you click the < to the left of the monitors icons, then you should see it.

By the way, most of the time i only have like 2 to 5 icons in my taskbar, but if i click the < i can see like 15 icons. But at least its less annoying than having all those icons show up all the time.
By the way, the AOL will still be active, you just can't see it without press the <
