It should never come back. The original 3 were the best--with Empire being the best of them all---but the prequel trilogy was a snoozefest. Even the last movie, what a let down! IThe biggest villain of all time was nothing more than a sniveling spoiled brat???? C'mon!!! t's time to let Darth Vader and the rest of the gang rest in movie heaven.

Although the latest three Star Wars films were a bit... Disappointing... The series definetly has room for a few more. Personally, I wouldn't mind seeing an episode 3.5, about the expanding of the control of the Empire, and the childhood of Luke. Also, there could always be an episode Seven. Wasn't that Nintendo 64 Game, Shadows of the Empire, supposed to take place after Return of the Jedi anyway?
Well, in the end, even if Star Wars could go a few more movies, the real question is, do you want it to? And I think most people would clearly answer no, based on the last few films.

Why not just make it a television series? I normally hate it when they make sequels, but most Star Wars ones were good. It's like leave a good thing alone and don't guild the lilly. Too much of a good thing makes you hate it. Why not have Christmas once a week? Or have your favorite dinner every night? Or have the carnival in town all the time instead of just for 2 weeks every year. No more Star Wars, no more Lord of the Rings. Let good enough be.

Thats funny, I was just thinking about that today. I think they should make new ones, like Star Trek did with The Next Generation. No more prequels though...

Lucas' notion was to keep the SW franchise as more a matinee type series appealling to younger audiences (robots, kids, Jar Jar's, Wookies, etc.). Underlying all that is a serious continuum, in this series it followed the rise, fall and redemption of Anakin Skywalker. We follow him from his days as a talented slave on a far flung desert planet, to being a respected but tragically ambitious young knight who seeks to redeem perceived wrongs and fill his life with love even when his heart pulls him to destructive tendencies. We see a capitulation of his desire and thirst for power, which causes nothing but death and loss and fear around him. And finally, he realizes there is hope, and turns on those who made him empty promises and used his anger and tyranny for their own purposes. That LATTER theme of the SW series needs to be explored more, perhaps as a pre-prequel (looking into the heroics of Liam Neeson/QuiGon Jinn) or as a sequel to Episode VI (much has been written about these years and it is more comic book fare than a compelling saga following Luke, Leia, Han, etc. as they seek to ensure that right beats might and good overcomes evil).
We all have something in us that can be deemed selfish, self-preserving, greedy etc. We also have the ability to be compassionate, giving, caring. It is this tug of war within us, as it manifests itself in our daily lives and our life as a portrait, that becomes an interesting story to tell and explore. One fascinating thing would be to see what Luke does as a Jedi when most Jedi before him are dead or lost. How does he rectify the Order and how does he cope with the paradox of Power and Philanthropy? How does Luke continue the balance of 'the Force' and what do the galaxies learn from him?
I think the introduction of previous characters into subsequent movies is a must (like QuiGon, Obi-Wan, Anakin, various Sith, Yoda, Mace Windu, etc.) There is a rich set of characters to draw upon that would hold appeal to original and prequel fans, and would lend some integrity to the trials facing the Skywalker twins in their quest to keep the Republic free and prosperous.
I don't think Lucas is up for the task. Kubrick would have done wonders with such Sci-Fi saga material, maybe Peter Jackson or Ridley Scott may be up for the task. Maybe it can be less starships and phasers and more mystery, espionage, adventure, close-quarter combat and dramatic material. That's my take, anyway.

Yeah sure, let's see just how much Lucas can destroy this franchise. Wow, what a great idea. As a matter of fact, let's bring Jake Lloyd back and do the Star Wars Prequel Prequels! Then, how about "Star Wars: Jar Jar Adventures". Oh boy, I can't wait!

I think a few more movies would be cool, BUT I myself would have trouble convincing myself to like them. They obviously can't use the original cast and it would probably not end up following the flow very well. Plus, Lucas would have to write it... he wrote the other six. I would, however, enjoy seeing an "Episode 3 1/2." They could tie up the leftover loose ends.

star wars has the potential for movies but unfortunately authors of he 80s and 90s ruined that chance by creating books based upon events after Return of the Jedi.

me totally but star wars movies all came out backwards
start with the recent movie and make your way to the first one that came out
so its impossible to come out with a new one
unless they say they missed and episode

i guess they could show the rise of Vader and Luke early years.
the building of the death star and the rise of the evil empire.
there is a space in between 3 & 4
maybe they will work on that one...
