Hi pumpkinslion,
the first example "fruits/veggie's composted to make a habitat for rodents/insects " it's a reuse of material. You reuse a waste, without transform it, to build something but the waste is still there.

The second example it's recycling by composting. You transform a waste in a useful (second) material that is different from the waste you had.

Plant waste is turned into nutrient rich soil which then is used to fertilize new plants.
