Imagine what the managers think about that, now that the All-Star Game actually means home-field advantage in the World Series! THAT'S the ridiculous part, in my opinion. Having to play those "former greats" rather than the more talented but not-as-popular players that didn't make the fans' cut . . . that's gotta be frustrating when the game is on the line. I just hope that we don't start seeing any sacrifice bunts in the All-Star game, just so one team can win. The All-Star game should be a fun game.
Then again . . . seeing Barry Bonds bunt would be fun.

Albert Pujols will probably play on Monday. The whole time he's been on the DL, he has STILL led MLB in home runs (25). Now he is tied with Howard of the Phillies. He deserves to be an all-star. I agree, a lot of fans choose the favorites rather than the best players, which is a shame, but no one would want the writers or anyone to pick the teams. MLB and the players assn. have agreed to extend the WS home field advantage clause for the all-star game, which I also don't agree with, but they want the fans to feel that the game "means something".

Don't forget that the All-Star Game is really for the fans (as is everything else in professional sports). The players that get in are who they want to see. This isn't an MVP voting for each position, it's purely for the entertainment of the fans. Besides, the managers always have their picks, so players having great seasons that don't get voted in by the fans can still play in the All-Star Game.

As a fan I absolutely agree. Fan voting sucks, because many fans are mindless drones who dont follow statistics, they follow names.Unfortunately, I dont know of a better way.Perhaps someone could divise a formula of statistical analyses, then select players mathematically based on performance rather than popularity. We should remember though, the all-star game was created so fans could watch all their favorite players compete on the same field. While we are changing things, lets stop allowing managers to select their entire roster as all-star backups.

As much as i agree with you, this is the best way that we can do all start voting.. this game is about the fans, and they should get what they pay for.. people wouldnt go to an all star game without high profile games.. just the way things are... and Pujols will be back soon.. so he will play in all star game

What should happen is the top 5 vote getters at each position have their stats compared by mangers or mlb.com. Then the best 2 players are selected and the starter voted in by the fans.

Well actually that is not always the case. I've seen only one answer to a question and in my opinion it answered correctly and many many times someone chooses NO BEST ANSWER. What's that about. If the asker doesn't go back and choose then the answerer doesn't get their deserved points. It will go to tiebreaker. And there no points for no best. Just meaness.

Fan voting is one of the few things we are allowed. Be happy its a fun game sounds like you like the dodgers they suck anyways so they wont make it to the world series and it wont matter who gets home field advantage

Pujols is not injured anymore, and he has every right to accept votes from his fans. he's the best and cleanest player since McGwire.

IT JUST COMES DOWN TO A POPULARITY CONTEST. LET THE PLAYERS VOTE JUST LIKE THEY DO IN THE NFL.
