Who said they are failing. The way I see Segway Inc. as a hugh niche market of the high end scooters. Seriously, think about it a lot of the big time celebrities, governments, tours, and even interenational they are doing pretty good business. Believe or not they even have a segway polo sport that is gaining more and more popularity...believe or not!!
And now the Segway Inc, is soon to be going out as a IPO! Segway Inc, is also stating that the international sales of the segway transporter HT has and continues to increase year to year.
Also, the segway products keep improving, and I see with the gas prices being has high as they are segway seem to be or could be a big puzzle in this area. Which they already seem to be doing in international where the gas prices are sometimes three times higher then the states!
Where is it that they are failing?

It is a fancy high tech wheel chair for people who don't need wheel chairs.
Also, America is getting fatter than hell. We don't need another device to keep us from burning calories.
In twenty years, something like the segway will probably be everywhere, assuming we aren't all working in a Chinese sweat shop and praying to Mecca five times a day under gunpoint.

Because the cheapest model is over $5000. I can think of a lot better ways to spend 5k than that.

It's not a replacement for a car or bike, but for walking and if you don't have the big bucks to spend on one then you'll just end up walking....
