I'm glad someone else does that. I turn down the stereo for anything though. Here's an example. I pull up to the ordering thing at McDonald's. I turn down the radio quite low, almost to where you can't hear it, before I even get there. But when I'm there, I mute it. Even though you can't really hear it anyway.
I turn it down when I'm looking for an address.
I turn it down when we are passing an accident & I can't concentrate on the wreckage, lol.
That's weird... :) -a-

you want a stupid answer? heres one. when you are looking for an address you are driving slower. so your mind has slowed down and your brain can't process the words anymore. so it's no use having the radio on because you can't understand it. that's the best i could do as far as stupid answers go

Habit? Music/Radio is something which occupies a portion of our conscious thought and we're used to turning it down to focus on other things (phone calls, conversation, ordering food in a drive-thru, etc) and it bleeds over to other activities as well.

My husband does this. Must be a male thing. They need to concentrate and music is a distraction. Only reason I can think of. He has trouble talking and driving too!

It's because those 2 functions are controlled by different parts of the brain. Your sight can't function as well when your listening parts are listening. It's the same reason that you bite your tongue when you are concentrating very hard on something.

You aren't funny and the questions are old and stale! Turn down your volume and look for your brain.

Is that one like my husband who came in and turned up the movie I was watching because he couldn't hear it.
Hello!!!!
I was watching a Japanese movie with subtitles. You can turn it up all you want but I'm still not going to understand a darn thing they say.

Turn it up and maybe the people at the address you are looking for will come out when they hear it.

probably for the same reason you yell at the kids to shut up while you are going down the road to the grocery store.
