Well, I'm sure there's a root somewhere in ancient history with the blahblahblah primal instincts whatnot. But honestly, it's a statement based around a society that is incredibly largely material. Furs have been, through history, a sign of great wealth. And in the younger and more recent era, it's a fairly simple matter of the media and trend enforcement and whatnot. As long as the people don't hear a whole lot about the facts, it doesn't occur to them that furs come from living beings-living things, often kept as pets, they'd be disgusted to see slaughtered (i.e chinchillas, rabbits, etc.).
Just a thought.

I don't know WHY they wear it nowadays except for ego -- but I can tell you this: It is not for warmth anymore. There was a time when furs were used to keep warm in winter. But there are much, much better synthetic materials out there now. Lighter, warmer, easier to clean and care for (ever smell 19th-century-process tanned hides? UGH!!!) Come to my town here in Minnesota when it is 20 below zero Fahrenheit, with a 30 mph wind and snow piled high -- and how many fur coats do you see? NONE. Ditto for modern arctic expeditions and Alpine climbers. So nowadays the ONLY reasons people wear fur are for vanity and selfishness.

they like the feel of the fur and the animal is dead which is sad for people dont realize how many skins it takes to make the coat.
I dont wear one and some think it is fashion sense and to show how wealthy and have the money to show off.

Why do people wear Leather Shoes? Carry leather Purses? I personaly wouldnt wear a fur coat if an animal was killed for just that reason.But I would put on a fake to Piss a PETA freak off in a minute!

Except for fgk90, I agree with everyone about the vanity thing, which is one of the 7 cardinal sins ALSO MENTIONED IN THE BIBLE! If you want more of a reason not to wear fur, visit one of the humane society web sites. Once you re-educate yourself, you may want reconsider you're answer, fgk90.

Unless they killed it themselves and used every part of the animal, like the native americans, and then had to wear their fur for warmth, then it's completely cruel.

there was a time in history when man needed it for food, clothing and shelter. i see no reason for it now. i dont even believe in hunting. as far as wearing it for fashion, these people ought to see what these poor animals go through from birth to slaughter. it is one of the worst crimes in the world as far as im concerned.its just a way to show off their rich, snobby asses.
