My best friend is neat, but she hasn't cleaned her oven in a long while. Any ideas? There's got to be something better than easy-off.

Even if you don't cook, your kitchen is still a refuge of dirt, grease and grime. Here are some great tips and cleaning solutions from the Queen of CleanB., Linda Cobb.

Cleaning the Oven

Materials and Ingredients:

Ammonia
Baking soda
White vinegar
Glass pans (different sizes)
Boiling Water
Sponge
Steel wool

Preheat oven at 200-degrees for 15 minutes.

Fill a shallow glass pan with approximately 1" of ammonia. Be sure to use a glass pan only.

Place the glass pan on the top shelf of the oven.

Take another glass pan -- a longer one this time -- and place it on the bottom shelf, then pour in 1" of boiling water (figure A).

Close the oven door and leave for at least two hours and overnight if the oven is heavily soiled.

The next morning, make a paste with baking soda and white vinegar (see instructions, below) to wipe out the oven.
Oven Cleaning Paste

Materials and Ingredients:

Note: Exact ingredient measurements aren't needed for this cleaning recipe.

Glass bowl
A little ammonia
Some baking soda
A little white vinegar
Spoon (or anything to stir)
Damp cloth
Damp sponge

Stir the mixture.

Remove the glass pans of ammonia and water from the oven.

Remove the cooking racks.

Using a damp cloth, wipe out the oven well.

Using a damp sponge, work in the baking-soda paste and scrub the surface.
Tip: If you have a stubborn spot, apply the paste and let it sit for at least 15 minutes, then wipe.

Be sure to clean the oven door and glass with this homemade cleaning solution, also

Step 1: Fill up the bowl with water.
Step 2: Put 3-4 tea spoon of vinegar in the bowl.
Step 3: Place the bowl in the oven and turn the heat on to max for 4-5 mins.
Step 4: Take the bowl out and then wipe the oven inner surface with the clean paper towel/cloth.

Vinegar helps to cut the grease and also helps removing the food smell from the oven.
Hope this helps!

I've gotten some pretty tough stuff off of cookie sheets and the like using Dawn Power Dissolver. If you get it on your hands it won't take the hide off like Easy Off will. I spray it on and let it sit for 2 or 3 hours then wipe it off. Any place that didn't come clean just gets sprayed again. Finish up with warm water then turn the oven on at about 200 - 300 to kinda dry things out.

Any oven cleaner will work if you give it time. Spray cleaner let sit for 20min., wipe with paper towel. Spray again let sit 20min. green scrubby oven, wipe with paper towel. Make sure you throw paper towel away don't re use. spray one more time let sit 10 min., wipe with towel one more time,if there is still stuck on food spray again and use a razor blade. Be very careful to make sure oven is wet and keep blade flat so you do not scratch oven. That should do it. Wipe final time with paper towel. Then use a clean wet cloth to get rid of residue from cleaner. Don't kill your- self its really not that hard. Everyone says do not use a razor blade but if you are very careful it shouldn't be a problem. I have a cleaning business and have used this method on ovens for the last 6 yrs and have not had a problem with any oven.

easy off, generally works the best, but my advice to her would be after cleaning it to line the bottom of the over with foil. and as far as your drip trays for the top burners, align them also, keeps everything nice and clean. Trust me it works. An for your oven racks, i learned this when i use to clean apartments, take the racks and put them in a plastic bag, large enough for them to fit in, once you have them in there spray a large amount of oven cleaner on the racks and let soak overnight, takes the grim right off.
