how do i change freeze plugs? are there any special tools needed

They can be difficult depending on the location. You can use a screw driver and a hammer. You punch a hole into the plug with the screw driver and then pop the plug out. You should drain the radiator prior to doing this.

To install the new plug, just tap in gently and evenly with the hammer. Good Luck!!!

You will need a flapper wheel and a drill to lightly polish the holes
and then a socket the right size and a hammer to tap the plug into place with. It is important to have the plug sitting straight before you tap it in. There are also expandable ones available that are
simpler to replace in either coopper or rubber.

No special tools. Just pop them and pull them. Not too easy of a job, but once you get them out , have fun putting new ones in. They make them in rubber if you have the room to slip them in, has a wing nut you tighten to expand the rubber in the block. They work and they do seal, just watch them when you 1st start the engine.

vice grips may work better so you won't strip anything.
