tell me how in the world the ocean can have shortages of fish like red snapper, grouper. how can there be enough cows to make burgers for the world and not enough fish to avoid a $25 dollar plate at a restaurant or a limit of 4 catch per day. makes no since to me.

Well, there are lots of factors. Fish is the world's main source of protein to the entire population of humans, so right there that means that people are dependent on fish, and have been for a long time, making it more likely to deplete the supply.

Also, we've used unethical methods of catching fish for so long.. purse seines, walls-of-death etc. that indeterminately catch everything, including juveniles that we don't eat, but haven't had a chance to reproduce either. Also, we always keep the largest fish when limits are places, meaning that the fish with defects or this e that are small are more likely to reproduce, introducing these genes to the next generation of fish. Many people can tell you that even in the last several decades, fish have been getting smaller and smaller.

Also, humans have caused most water sources to heat up, making the oxygen content lower, making die-offs of fish more and more frequent.

another thing is that fish can only live in some parts of the ocean, limiting their breeding grounds. And unless you live right on the coast or by some other water source, a big fee is added to your fish dinner for the cost of refrigeration and shipping. With gouging of gas prices, everything that's shipped is going to cost more.
I could ramble on further, but I hope that much this is helpful.

-The oceans have a lot of "desert" where there is nothing but
weeds.
-A lot of good fish has to be brought and imported from the distant parts of the world.
-It takes a lot of people and expensive equipment and time to catch fish and bring it to the land from the seas.
-in most cases, humans have no influence on feeding or reproducing of fish.
-Fish like snapper and grouper feed 1 Pearson in the restaurant.

-Cows are grown pretty much everywhere in USA, Europe, Asia
-They are grown on our own farms. No too much travel.
-Humans feed the cows (even with the hormones, to make more meat out of them in a shorter period of time) They also control the reproduction.
-There is some ridiculously huge number how many burgers could be made out of one cow. Especially because you can add some more foods to the burgers.
-In the end, fish is much healthier food, and should be more expensive, don't you think? I hope my answer helped you.

well I am not sure what country your asking this question from...
but the USA trying to be NICE to other countries let them come closer and closer to our countries shores with GIANT ships and lower their fishing fleet down and into our water...and these Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Russian ( to mention a few ) take ALL every thing they pick up..( you see the pull nets with tiny holes in them..so almost nothing gets out ) were as the USA fishing fleet HAVE to have larger holes in SMALLER nets so some fish can get away...and these foreign fishing fleet do not throw anything over board....you can tell because there isn't any birds at all near these giant ships...that is because nothing goes back to feed the fish .....then they take it all back to their countries and our fishermen have tons of regulations and limits to what they can catch and sell...but the fuel keeps going higher and higher, but they can not catch more fish to sell, but the government lets all other countries take what ever they want..
so our fishing fleet go out of business and the ones left that are still fishing have to sell what they can catch for a higher price..
we need to make the foreign country fishing fleet go back out to sea..( OH you see they have fished their own waters clean..no fish in their countries now) ....
and we are also letting LARGE big companies to dump poisons and chemicals out in the water where fish grow...( or should I say now die )..and if the other countries keep taking the fish that breed, we will not have any fish un the near future too.
our country lets other countries ( I will say it nicely ) MESS all over us and we pay for it, and we are going to be in trouble very shortly for this...

There is farming of land animals such as chickens, cows, etc. there is also farming of trout but there is no farming of red snappers etc. , so due to big fishing trawlers their is a shortage of fish that are not farmed in the world.

well, luckily the indians or hindus dont eat cow, that would be an extra 1 billion or so burgers, and most people cant afford to eat beef, and cows are farmed while fish are harvested in a wasteful and not sustainable way.

because we have raped the seas for years only taking the biggest fish first. those are the ones that were capabile of having other fish then we started working our way to the smaller ones, if there are no adult fish, there can be no baby fish. check out www.montereyfish.com for more info on how to be fish friendly!

Because the cows are being farmed, but the fish aren't.
