I had a 2nd interview luncheon last week, and it went SO well...they told me they'd call back later this week to let me know for sure. It's thursday night and I still haven't heard. When is it ok to call or email them as a followup?

From a recruiter: Recruiters get so overloaded with callbacks-e-mail a "Thank You for the 2nd interview" and state "please call me at your convenience I know you are really busy"...

The funny thing is -- even though there are likely to be "rules" of ettiquette concerning this type of thing -- it is unlikely that very many people actually know what the "rules" are.

As to when you should call your prospective employer, the truth is you have to follow your heart, your gut instinct. If you feel that the interviews went well, you should boldly and cheerfully contact the business you are interested in whenever you need or want to.

Given your situation, I would call them today or tomorrow. It is almost always better "to strike while the iron is hot." Call them! Don't e-mail as it does not have the same power in reaching people's emotions that your voice on the phone does.

Rehearse what you are going to say before you get on the phone. It always helps to know exactly what you are going to say before you start the conversation. And when I say rehearse, I really mean rehearse, it will help you to collect yourself, stretch out your vocal cords, and relax. By practicing you will eliminate some if not most of your jitters and it will help you to stay focused on what you are trying to accomplish. You will impress your future employer with your direct confident approach.

You have already impressed them, or they would not have asked you back for an interview. They already like you -- because if they did not they would not have had you interview a second time. Since you know that these two things are true -- you have nothing to fear in contacting them.

Remember, "Fortune smiles on the brave."

Best wishes,

Mr Merchant

Hi Jackie, If you feel your 2nd interview went well then I would give it maybe 2 - 3 days and if you havent heard from them then go ahead a make that phone call. I have always learned that if you keep on calling the employer then he or she is gonna see that you are an eager person and most employers like to see that in an employee. Just stay on top of this and sooner or later they are gonna have to respond back to you. Best of Luck!

It's best not to call back after a second interview unless being a nuisance is one of the characteristics required for the position. They want to know whether or not you can follow instructions.

I'd give it till Monday or Tuesday and if by Tuesday afternoon you still haven't heard anything ring them back and let them know you are excited by the prospect of working for them and you were just checking back to let them know you are more than interested. Don't get too outrageous but just keep it low key and don't be too pushy.

Your 2nd interview was last week? You need to call (not email) ASAP. Employers don't like to keep a position open for too long..it's just more work for them to do. You need to get their attention so it's easier for them to choose you.

Sure, Ask them if they made a decision on the open position or tell them you just wanted to follow up after the interview.

I would call back on friday as a follow up as all they can say is
''we have not decided as yet''and then say that you will call back on the following tuesday, and they will at least know that you are serious about wanting the job.

I'd call Friday. Show them you're persistant and that you WANT the job. People who wait for them to call usually get passed over for the person who took the initiative. Good Luck!!!
