The way you question is worded makes me say no, but I think I know what your getting at.

If you heat up a penny, then sick it above some nail polish remover (acetone), an exothermic reaction will occur, causing the penny to heat up (and glow). The key is to supply the activation energy for the reaction to occur by heating the penny. if you just stick any old cold penny there, no significant reaction will occur.
I have seen this reaction done somewhere, but I can no longer find the web site it is displayed on.

Bad wording. False. The nail polish is a volatile solvent, and it evaporates quickly. Evaporation makes the penny cooler.
