Most of English root words are coming from Greek and Latin because most of Western Civilization started in Greece and later to Rome. To be critical, it started a little bit east of Greece in Persia and Mesopotamia (Modern Iran and Iraq). But it did not influence Modern Western Civilization until it came to Greece. Anyways, The Greek gave us comedy, tragedy, the Senate, Sorority and Paternity, math, science and astronomy, etc. Then the influences went west into Rome where society somehow interpolate and gave us what is today's society. Things such as politics, army and navy's trategics: the Legionair and wartime manouvering, and etc. The source of money from trading also came from these areas. The word trading is the big word at that time. That is why empire fighting empire against each other to control the trades route from land and sea. Not until the Northern Germanic Tribes such as the Barbarian among others which I forgot came down and conquered the Romans. Then Christianity started in Rome and spread northwest. Christianity influenced the Germanic Tribes because I do not remember the specific interacting. But one time King CharlesMagne of The Germans was giving power by the Pope so that the King would protect the Pope and in return he would be religiously blessed. As you know the Latin language gave birth to 5 other languages. They are English, Portugese, Spanish, Romania, and Italian. Keep on studying because knowledge is power. If not by a popular college, why not attend a community college then get a good grades then transfer to a good college in your junior year. You know what they say...All roads lead to Rome!

Greek and Latin were two of the primary languages spoken. The Greeks and Romans were conquerors and their conquests were forced to speak the language of the ruling society. English is a relatively new language and most of our language is founded on the earlier tongues.
