I cannot believe that Hiddink would drop Schwarzer, one of the world's best goalkeepers, a proven match winner, a natural leader and marshaller of the defence, not to mention the player who's goalsaving heroics singlehandedly got us into the World Cup, for the 2nd string goalkeeper who is markedly inferior to Mark. Absolute madness, not to mention disrespectful of the huge role which Schwarzer has played in Australia's World Cup campaign. Wake up Guus!

He is probably hugely humiliated and embarrassed at his mistakes and performance. No one will be a harsher critic than he himself.

I respect Hiddink a great deal, but I cannot fathom his decision not to play Mark as keeper. I agree with what the above poster has said on that matter. Did you see his face on the bench. We need him in goal for the Italy match or we are cooked. Every time Croatia approached our end of the field I was panic stricken and almost covered my eyes. My 14 yr old loves the socceroo's and lost it momentarily when she screamed "what was that, god almighty I could have saved that goal" . She was afraid he may have cost us a spot. I think Guus needs to put him back on the bench. But I do feel for him though.

He'd have to be relieved but I reckon he'd be far from happy !

I reckon he will just be tearing himself up inside... there must be so much self doubt I wonder if he can ever come back...I am sure he is better than his last performance but I think that game may have scarred him. And being a second string keeper at his club means chances to regain some confidence may be few and far between - just adding to the pressure next time.

I don't doubt the team will gather round him in support but, sheeeeesh. It's gotta be tough !

Awful performance, nearly cost the Aussies their place in the last 16. Schwarzer must surely return against Italy.

i reckon it was a master move by the Guus to make Schwarzer desire his position more and not get complacent. maybe anyways hehe, who knows with the Guus but who cares as long as it works

He surely is, but he has to contend with the fire power of the Italians in the second round.

He probably is the happiest - but he didn't do us any favours - I dare say he won't be in for the Italian game........................................................but - for now - who cares - we're in - we're in - we're in
