I think it's all staged. I believe they give them "easy to rip off" clothes and dress them to look like rednecks. You can find people like that in every state but I would say the majority come from Kentucky, West Virginia and Georgia.

Having worked backstage (but not for the Jerry Springer Show), I do know that alot of the guests are not actors. These people are coached as to what to say, what to do, how to act, how to talk, etc. They are advised to wear their own clothes, with the understanding that they may be ripped off or damaged in some fashion.
On the flip side, however, some people that have appeared on the Jerry Springer Show are actors (most come from wrestling - Maryland Championship Wrestling to be exact). Please watch the end credits of the Jerry Springer Show - whenever they have had wrestlers from Maryland Championship Wrestling appear, it will say (in the rolling credits) "special thanks to Maryland Championship Wrestling".
I hope that my answer has helped you. Have a lovely rest of the day.

Hey I think its not real, I went to a taping of Jerry in December of last year and when it not interesting or not enough action. they made them re-do the segment over again so for me its a little bit of both I think sometimes they get actors and sometimes It real people depends on the story. another thing that kinda surprise me is how I think their plant audience members to like ask questions or show the goods- this is totally my opinion and how I observe when I went to a taping

No, becaue I will tell you right now. When two brothers get on stage and they are fighting over a women, or in Jerry Springers case, a Biatch, they don't hug and wrestle, they throw punches and kicks that don't miss. That's what's up! Holla!!!

I've heard that they are real people but behind the scenes, people on staff talk with the guests and get them riled up. They encourage them to act the way they do. Is it true? I'm not sure but with the antics, it makes sense.

their stories are partially true. But I met some people who were in my cab while I was in Chicago who had just taped a show and they were told by the producers that everytime they get dramatic and/or punch someone they'll get paid $100!
So that's what they get all ghetto!

yeah, i've heard it's real cuz my gramma watches that show and whenever i see her she feels the need to inform me of everything that went on every episode (hence the shortened family reunions...) and anyway, she was telling me this one show how he was so disappointed that one of the episodes was all just an act that this group did to screw over the tv show, so if you believe jerry and my senile grandmother, then yes, it is all (or mostly) real...

It is all showbiz, baby. It is very distressing to me that there is an audience for this trash. As for the hillbillies, every state has some.
