Find out what kind of food they like. Then find the hippest place where they have that food. Say "Hey do you like [insert favorite food here]? I know this great place in [wherever]. Do you want to come with me? It is literally the best [insert favorite food here] I've ever had." Yeah. I know I'm awsome!

I'm of the opinion that if a girl has to ask the guy out, then probably the guy isn't worth going out with. If you really like him but he's shy, be indirect first and just be nice to him or sit with him at lunch and see what happens. If after a few days of that and he's still too shy to ask, be direct and just say, "Ask me out sometime." But leave the actual asking to him. Make him work and sweat a little. If you're too direct, then you're communicating that you're easy, and most men won't be interested. Men generally like the chase.
