I really don't care what their favourite sports are or are not. That is their choice. They have the right to enjoy whatever sports they like just as the rest of us do. I'm not obsessed with America or it's people. There are good and bad everywhere. I do not see them as superior to me or my country in any way, shape or form. With that said I can see why others get annoyed sometimes. While there are many wonderful people there are also those that are surrealistic and cannot praise any other country or achievement or accept anything less than being dominant and it's a shame they give the majority a negative appearance. I was annoyed at their attitude to Australia in relation to qualifying. and not to unhappy that those responsible are eating their words or suffering from foot in mouth disease. Why can't we all just respect each other and our differences.

I am an American: soccer is certainly not popular here in the U.S. American football and baseball are our top sports. They're saying that since soccer is so big everywherre else that it will soon take over the U.S. as well which everyone here is laughing at. All the late night comedians make jokes about how there are so few people here that are actually watching FIFA. The American team didn't have our support and that probably has to do with why they lost. But I think people are obsessed with America in general b/c we are so rich and technological! There are probably more millionaires and billionaires here than any other country and we always seem to get everything first. Not trying to sound cocky or snobbish but I have noticed that. I love English people!!!! :)

I'm and American living over-seas and I'm very passionate about soccer. Now I'll be totally honest and say we DID NOT deserve to be ranked in the top ten of FIFA. But I will say we are a good team and we showed in 2002, by making the quarter-finals losing to Germany 1-0 ( Which was controversial due to a German hand-ball in the penalty box). But I feel we did not do good this world cup due to key players being injured and playing not the way they used to (e.g. DeMarcus Beasley, Claudio Reyna, Eddie Johnson) and also players being completely injured and missing the World Cup (Cory Gibbs, Frankie Hejduk....). But one could say that almost every fan uses that excuse after suffering a loss. This is true, however, I'll admit we probably wouldn't get past the quarters. Now I don't know anybody obsessed with US soccer, but I did observe a few users replying to this very question demonstrating superb immaturity. For example - lanabird1fly "I cant stand Americans. Their all ignorant about everything. They think their better than everyone else, and Trust me they r not !!!!" First of all, ignorance means lack of intelligence for a certain subject. And the only person that appears to be ignorant is lana. He/she's judging and entire nationality, which includes Americans outside of the mainland. Maybe he/she had trouble with certain Americans in the past, but it would still be ignorant and arrogant to say such a thing. Unless lana is 13 years old, he/she has no excuse for such a comment. Therefore you, lana, are ignorant and arrogant.

I am an American and I dont like football or soccer. I think obsession over any sport is stupid. I couldn't care less if AMerican isn't good at soccer. Being good in sports doesn't make you anything great. Some of America's biggest sports people are always in scandles.

as an american, i wonder the same thing myself. for some reason you europeans want us to 'get in line' with the rest of the world and be soccer fans. WHY? it's just not our cup of tea. football(american) is americas passion. as far as we're concerned it's the greatest and most exciting sport on the planet, but the rest of the world just doesn't get it, and that's ok, it's your loss. you have no idea what a wonderful sport you're missing out on. but i'm not going to obsess over it, if europeans don't want to watch then cool, don't. why does it bother you guys so much that we're not into soccer? acually, 5 or 6 years ago when our womens team won the world cup the entire US really got into it for a couple of weeks. the TV ratings went through the roof, for some reason the entire country was captivated by womens soccer. the US beat china 1-0 on penalty kicks and i have to admit, i watched every minute of that game and i enjoyed it very much. but after about a month things got back to normal and suddenly no one cared about soccer anymore. they started a womens pro leauge shortly after but it flopped.

Because United States of America is a Great Country, not because its military power, technology advance, ... but it is the only Country which was built with migrants from everywhere, every religion and every race, and till now, United States is still keeping doors opened to Legal Migrants, just check out the Diversity Lottery Program, Refugees Program...
Yes, There are plenty of illegals, but even they have to be sent back home, it is done humanly.
Have a look on the European Style with migrants, even when they are legal, even when they are citizens.
Remember, few months ago, Paris and others cities was burning ? Think about it !

From an Aussie I was interedted to see them fail. Because of the following:-
When the drawing of the groups where being done and some countries including England said they where worried if they would have to play Australia.
The almighty super powered USA (hehe) said Australia should not even be in the 32 nations, we didn't deserve to be there and we where not good enough.
So to see them going home is absolutly fantastic.
We are still there in the top 16 hail to the mighty super power even money couldn't help this time.
Go Aussies

Soccer would gain worldwide recognition if it becomes the national sport of the US. That's the hope of the rest of the world. America, wake up!
