There are lots of diffrent Antivirus free programs. It depends alot on personal preferance. There are also alot of online scanners(scan your PC live on the web) Personally I like AVG produced by grisoft.
they have a free version that is very good at both finding and killing.

Anti-Virus? Try Kaspersky Anti-Virus, very effective anti-virus. I've had some problems with McAfee and Norton a year ago. They can't seem to remove a virus that was dwelling on my machine for months. I forgot the name of the virus but I was able to remove it with Panda antivirus but the downside is that my computer struggles at startup with Panda intalled. So I tried, Kaspersky anti-virus 2 months ago. They have a 30 day free trial, it expired for a month ago, but for some reason, I could still use it even if it's expired. It's still updating, downloading virus signatures and keeps my PC safe =)

I agree, AVG is a very good choice but it is not as effective as McAffe or Norton.
If you buy a DELL computer, you get McAfee on a 30 month trial period and believe, it is worth what you pay for it, one can not practice unsafe PCing today.
Also, you can get for free their Site Advisor, which test the Web to help keep you safe from spyware, spam, viruses and online scams, specially when you make a search in Yahoo! or Google and the results are yet to be tested and safe.

free antivirus might not protect you as they might not have all the viruses (signatures) out there

i had a virus and it magically 'came back' after running a free av, only got rid of it with a 'premium' av

reccomended are norton or mcafee

well not technically from the web, but if you use a downloading programe, such as napster etc, u can simply type in what programe you are looking for and at the end of it, add +crack, the crack then enables you to have the pro version... for free
